No idea what ppl do but I would boil em for half an hr and check for hydration. Let em get to the appropriate wetness qnd let steam dry. Toss in jars an PC for 3hr.

It mostly depends on the dimensions of the dowels.

Hoping to get some opinions on these. The cake will have been left consolidating for 7 days on Monday. I noticed a black/silvery/translucent strand in the cake.. wondering what the hell that is. It's right near the center of the cake, and in fact there is two of them.
The shoe box was spawned from 4 1/2 pints and mixed at a 1:2 spawn:sub ratio with about .5 being spread across the top and this will be 5 days at some point this evening. I had to add some verm to the coir because it was way over field capacity when I went to mix with the spawn. Wondering what percentage of colonizing a person would consider it at, and when I should flip the lid or should I flip it at all and just leave it secured until the mushrooms are almost touching the lid and then dub tub it.
Also I had to go away the morning after I put this shoe box together for 5 days, I am wondering if it looks dry or okay for now?
This is my first ever grow so I'm unsure about a lot even with all the reading I've done.

Looks like imperfections in the glass to me... and the shoebox is actually still over feild capacity, and this is the reason you've not got full colonization of the surface... I'd leave the lid unsnapped overnight to see if it'll lighten up a little

ok roger that, thanks Caps I'll try it.
Also good to know it is still over field capacity. I have 8 more jars that should be ready to be mixed next weekend so I will try to get it closer this time.

My blue oysters are fruiting . I just stuck it in a tote for humidity and forgot about it.
Suhweet. There is a ton of orange/yellow metabolites and it kinda smells a bit weird but I've never grown oysters before not sure if the smell is normal. Gonna let it fruit a first flush and then toss it I think. More of a side project to keep me busy really.

Not cubensis mycelium... only kind of contaminants I know... you'd likely have more luck in the contamination forum

No wet spots yet. I don't think it's mycelium. Grows too fast. My other jar was colonizing fine until I shook it. It recovered for a day or two but this stuff has prevented any further recovery and they stalled. It took over in a few days and the healthy mycelium hasn't grown any further.

I'd do a shake (gently) at this point. My guess is that it will completely die off and you won't see any myc. BUT...it may recover. Grains do look dry to me.

The aftermath of a shake will often reveal a lot.

What do wet grains suggest? Bacteria, poor water content, mold? And what are the different aftermaths of a shake.....?
