Mine looked this way too, it's when it first starts spreading before it really takes a hold of that spot. Give it some time and it will consolidate.

Reaches around the jar and also colonizes the middle. You're looking at a two-dimensional expression of something that's happening in three dimensions.

The far right jar looks to have a green spot at the eleven o'clock position on the mycelium. All the other jars have a mix of tomentose and rhizomorphic mycelium which is common in multispore grows.

So it seems like a few of the jars are just stalled or didn't start to colonize at all. The room that they are in can get a little cool.
So i tried something to keep a more consistent environment. I grabbed an aquarium heater and put it in a large coffee can full of water in that will be my monotub (has no holes yet).
At least it will help keep a more consistent temperature. But I' m unsure about the humidity, think it'll be a problem?
Also, I need to make sure i do proper sterile procedure. I underestimated how adamant people are about it and I lost a lot of my BRF jars. I had enough spores to redo them though.
Also, just for fun I decided to try WBS, pressure cooked and inoculated 2 or 3 days ago. So I'm curious to see how that goes.

not THAT cool, like it's still comfortable in my place. I don't know farenheit, probably goes 17-23 Celcius (60-75ish f).
There is quite a bit of humidity being created in the bin now.

So I came across a great deal on a pressure cooker online and picked it up. Thing is, nowhere does it state the pressure adjustment or ability to adjust the pressure, so I don't know what the pressure actually gets to. So my question is in order to ensure success with this cooker until I can get a good one do I just do jars for longer times? How long? thanks! I don't want to post a pic because I'm on mobile right now and don't know how to shrink it but it's a 6l one from bed bath and beyond.

Is it the type of PC with the weight where you time it when it blows off steam? Just read the instructions, once or twice a minute and you are good to go, just experiment with the dial on your stove until you get it in the sweet spot.

The only mention in the manual of the pressure capabilities are the cooking time charts, they are based off 12 psi.
I read in the Pressure Cooker Tek that Bod taped a few quarters to the valve to achieve a bit higher psi. I assume this is doable with this one too?
It says it's normal to hear it hiss or whistle when it is at pressure but if it starts to rattle its too high, but the rattling may come around 15psi.
Anyway, I'm happy I have one now. I'll be using the last of the spores I have to inoculate a few WBS jars after PCing them tomorrow.
Ideally, I'd love to be able to harvest at least 1 flush from a few tubs by the middle of May, since I'll be moving to a temporary location for 6 months that won't allow me the space to do mycology.

Took a crack at grain, and SUCCESS! [Re: TheDude11]

Hi!,
So as my BRF cakes are nearing 100% colonization, well some of them anyway, I decided, for the sake of fun and curiosity, to try doing WBS, after almost giving up on them I can finally see growth in one of them!!! This makes me very happy!
I should be receiving a good amount of rye tomorrow, Is it realistic to think that i might be able to do g2g and get enough grain spawn to do a nice harvest with the grains within the next 2 months? May 10ish is the deadline, as I'm moving.

There is a difference between a pressure cooker and a pressure canner, you need a pressure canner, pressure cooker will not get hot enough and stay away from the electric pressure cooker.

That is mold if it's only been 2 days.
Edit: Did you see my comment about pressure canner vs pressure cooker? Your grains are not getting sterilized.

Doesn't look like mold to me bud. I just used a jar to make 8 more via G2G. Smelled just fine. I'll be spawning in the next couple days.

Just an update.....I have mostly everything spawned. have 1 more bucket or so worth of spawn colonizing. The myc is starting to poke through the casing layer of verm/coir.

That's looking absolutely great my dude. Couldn't tell from your original post. Is this your first rodeo? How much $ did you sink into this project if you dont mind me asking. Seeing these pictures is motivating me to give a bulk growing tek a shot.

This is my first time. I've spent a decent amount of extra/unnecessary money with the huccups and mind changes but the experience was worth it.
Me, being me, whenever I get an interest or hobby I tend to jump in head first and get very involved very quickly.
At first I was taking all the advice and was just going to go standard PF Tek. But of course I had to complicate things, and the cakes were taking awhile to colonize and I was getting frustrated of the contaminated jars. So I decided to amp it up and got a PC, tried WBS with some success, then the rye, which is now, by far, my preferred method.
I also have an Agar kit on the way, as I am leaving for a few months and I don't particularly want to start from scratch and wait for germination again, I'm hoping to successfully make some dishes that I can tinker with when I get back.
These things are truly fascinating.
