On my own. I was down to like 4 or 5 drinks per evening.  My meds can't mix with alcohol anyway so I can't lose.

Unsure whether I'll drink again.

Plus, I still have booze and I'm not even temped.

That's your decision, IMHO, a good one. As far as unsure whether you will drink again....I haven't had a drink in quite a few 24 hrs. but I still don't promise myself or anyone else that I won't drink tomorrow....I'm just not gonna drink today.

As far as the booze around....that's your choice....I kept a case of Bud in my refrigerator when I first got sober for when my brothers or dad would visit....never once was tempted but my story probably varies from yours...I was completely broken and had enough of a beating that I asked God for help while laying on my kitchen floor.

People can say what they will but I have not had a desire to drink from that day on. Let me know if you ever want to chat....I'm a pretty good listener.:sunny::peace:

It's weird, when I was drinking (or temporarily sober) I couldn't see the day when I'd actually stop drinking or not want to drink. Even after the complete sickeners, the fucked up shit, lost jobs etc I still went back to it, I thought itd never end.

I dont know what's different this time, maybe like Thayen, I was completely broken, drink had kicked my ass and kicked it fucking hard. I have no desire to drink anymore either and theres a whole bunch of shit I'm doing now that I'd never be able to do if I was beating drink in to me daily like before. If I start again, all that is lost. It's not worth it:shrug:

Good point, I lost a pile of weight when I stopped then started putting it back on 6 months later because I was eating crisps and chocolate all day lol.

Well guys, I think I'm actually gonna pull through this time around.

I quit 10 days ago and I haven't felt the need to drink at all.

I hope I'll get a boost of some sort in the near future. Increased mental clarity or something.  That would becool.

If I can do it all of you guys can .

Thats awesome mang. Do you have any interests? Maybe something you've not done for a while you could get back in to? With your regained focus and energy it might be good to channel them in to something, maybe set a few small goals etc, keep the mind and body motivated.

I simply moved the time I play poker to where I normally drink.  It's as stupid as that.  I used to go in the early afternoon. now I go at around 7PM.

AA is not anything about temperance. It is not a movement against alcohol at all. It is simply for people who have had enough of a beating from alcoholism, the sickness. About stopping our own drinking and learning to live without it....life on lifes terms.

It is not my belief that the subtitle of the piece of art I posted has anything to do with banning alcohol. I was thinking of temperance as meaning moderation, nothing else.

:congrats:
Pretty amazing what not drinking (or speeding), one day at a time can add up to.
Congratulations to everyone else who has been sober today, or this week, or month, or even years.

I celebrated 5 years without alcohol about 2 weeks ago.

4 and a half years ago the thought of never drinking again seemed like an impossibility.
Now, as long as I don't pick up today, and do that again tomorrow,
I have a pretty good chance of staying sober.

My doctors say I was very fortunate that I finally (at age 56) decided to seek and accept help for my alcoholism.
My liver cirrhosis was in Stage 2 and beginning to turn stage 3.
Things have stabilized a bit now that I no longer drink.

Anyone still looking for a good reason to stop drinking, take a few minutes to learn about liver disease.
https://www.medicinenet.com/cirrhosis/article.htm

My latest blood work had abnormally high BUN and creatinine levels, plus a few other abnormal results,
enough that my doc told me Friday afternoon to come in for another checkup ASAP.

As far as my recovery goes, I'm still working step 10:
"Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it."

I got a pretty good handle on my anger issues (use that pause button)
still working on my impulsive/compulsive behavior and I still struggle to keep my attitude in check.
Some people and things still really piss me off. :gc:
Regardless, I am grateful every day for where I am in life.

I had to sell my car last year so I don't get to as many meetings as I'd like to
but when I do need some support I log in here(as vinsue)
https://www.intherooms.com/public/article/in_recovery

They do live video meetings for AA, NA, gamblers A, etc., all times of the day and night.
Other good readings to browse there too.

Feel free to :pm: me if anybody would like to talk, matter of fact I'm going to reach out to
some one here because I need to talk  a bit.

Stay strong and be well everybody.
:vinsue: . . . :peace:
