I remember those. Hope they work out.

So... I got an old print from a friend but the print doesn't seem to be preserved in good condition. I'm doing agar for the first time and planning to do some clean up. Fingers crossed!

Bottom white colony is your best bet, I'd transfer now! The top culture looks to be bacterial

Sorry for the cross post but had to show off some foldscope pictures, 140x lense with my phone's 8x zoom. RW lc. Lc pics, don't really have a clue what I'm looking for yet but that's all apart of learning. The lc should be clean, as for the slides of glass I put it on, I dont think so.

And some GT spores suspended in tape.
If anyone knows where to get a 430x lense for the foldscope PM me!!!!

That red stuff is really gnarly, I've never seen anything quite that bright before. I've had good luck transferring away from molds, usually smaller colonies though

After some searching and digging I'm led to believe the red stuff could be Rhodotorula, nasty stuff. I'm trying to be as sterile as possible. Btw, is it ok just to toss this dish out as it is after transfer? I was thinking soaking it in a bag of bleach water before I throw it out. Would it be a good idea?

What I wanna know is how they stop it growing, or does it get tossed after they take the picture?

That looks pretty accurate, from the wikipedia link it looks like you need to introduce it to oil contaminated water. But seriously just throw it in the compost. It's nothing exotic, it had to come from somewhere (aka your house/mycology room etc.)

I rewrap contaminated plates and put them in. Paper bags (for concealment)in the trash, though it's probably not necessary really; you're throwing it away
