Thanks mushboy seen your knots.
The tarp is for any overspray/easy cleanup. Don’t want to warp the wood underneath, or cause any water buildup.

Seeing good things today. Finally think I got this box dialed. It’s mist in the morning, handles locked, handles unlocked at night.

Next time I’m doing a top coir layer for sure.
Also, I wanted to share my favorite dub. I’ve used this design many times with slight mods. This is unmodified. I love this thing. To dry it, I slide the top over 2 inches. To moisten it, I put it back. I’ve never once misted this bad boy. It’s bigger than a shoebox, but whatever

Appreciate this thread so much. Still working on proper surface conditions, but I suppose that’s what trial and error is all about. Making adjustments and learning what works. Here’s one of my better shoeboxes. The others are getting side pins again.
Edit: I know the surface isn’t very even. I thought it was when I was doing it. Whoops

As for surface even-ness... Well, you know the mushrooms push that shit around. Don't be so hard on yourself. I make mine all nice and pretty, but them mushies make it look random af by the time I got pins.

Only one fruit (plus a couple of tiny pins).

I have no idea what I am doing wrong with this box or how to correct! Should I add a late top-layer? Less misting?

Overmisting, needs light... allow evaporation to occur between mistings to stimulate pinning and avoid over-saturating the substrate

Out of curiosity, Caps, what in the picture tells you that, other than the lack of a consistent pin set?

Matted surface that looks damp instead of dry ... and long skinny stipe with a tiny cap indicates insufficient lighting

True true. A few were a little sloppy towards the end. But probably not as bad as I thought and they just messed it up. I ain’t mad. Just looking forward to these babies grow up

Thanks for that.
I'm starting to think I should have just left the lids on for a lot longer instead of getting on this micromanaging trip. I've been obsessed with the gaps in my non-Sterilite shoebox lids, alternating between thinking there's too much air or too little, and then misting or letting dry out to compensate.
Next time I might just do BOD's shopping bag tek and just leave them.

They're intended to be set and forget really... micromanagement equates to a whole lot of stress: for you, and more importantly, your culture lol

RW spawned 12/21: babies!

PE6 day 4: second box has a thicker top layer; just experimenting
Texas day 4:

Everything got a top layer at spawn except Texas, which was remixed after adding it, and ran out of prepped coir... considered adding one now, but I'm going to let it go
