Largest collection of lyophilized (freeze-dried) mushrooms in the world! 7

So, a friend sent me some pictures from a mushroom museum he visited a while ago on his trip around Europe, it boasts a collection of over 1600 perfectly preserved mushrooms! This is just a small fraction of the collection, but I thought you guys would enjoy it so I decided to share it with you! Personally, I think it looks amazing!

EDIT: Updated with more pictures

Yeah, are these just flash frozen in liquid nitrogen and lyophilized? I'm amazed that they keep their shape so well.

That is pretty awesome. I was thinking of getting some nice mushrooms and dipping them in polyurethane or some kind of clear epoxy. It would be awesome for teaching identification and even making jeweler or sculptures. They would probably rot from the inside out though.

A little detective work and I was able to figure out that it's the Muzej gljiva – Museum of Mushroom, in Zagreb, Croatia.
That looks really, really cool. It's amazing how well many of the colors stay!
-------------------- Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

This is the description of the process given in the museum. So in short, you just need one very expensive piece of equipment. But it would be really cool to be able to do something like this at home, these mushrooms look amazing!

Dang, I was in Zagreb only a few months back. Wish I'd known about it then...

Apparently there aren't any, my friend spent 2 hours in there and looked at every mushroom, the closest to a psychedelic is Gymnopilus spectbilis. "Real" mycologists don't like being associated with psychoactive mushrooms, and just a few specimens in a collection like that could get them in trouble in a country as conservative as Croatia.
Update: I added some more pictures to the OP.

That's a very good question. They don't really look fragile in the pictures, even the veils are well preserved. I still can't wrap my head around this process, it seems like magic to me, the mushrooms retain their shape and color almost perfectly, even though they don't contain a drop of water!

Damn that's sad. Also I just noticed that there isn't even Amanita Muscaria
