Some things to meditate on
    #2572441 - 04/17/04 10:21 PM (19 years, 11 months ago)

The simplest melodies are the hardest to play

Within the microcosm and marcrocosm there are worlds in their own space and time

Males wear the makeup in the animal kingdom

That all things do indeed pass is revealed when a child's sadness turns to laughter.

Most depression is only anger, most anger, fear

My responsibility for the world begins and ends with myself

Quitting is not always a bad idea

The chicken is the eggs way of reproducing itself

More to come

Meditate on this:

For every cliche statement another one with the opposite conclusion exists.

War will become obsolete when it is socially unacceptable

Perhaps there are no accidents

Home can be a state of mind

A navajo blanket traditionally contains an imperfection

To a person chained in a cave, the shadows on the wall are reality

"Home can be a state of mind"

I like that one.

A home would be nice, but it doesn't really matter.  I think what caused me to realize that none of it matters, that it's all a state of mind, is realizing that our time on earth is so short, and we're not here to see how many possessions we can own but what we can do to help others and what we can learn to become better people.

If you can see that we're here for a greater goal than what we own, then what we own, where we live, doesn't really much matter, because as the old saying goes, "you can't take it with you."  Stuff just doesn't really much matter.

I met a bartender at a bar last night who said he is going to school to work in the T.V.  industry.  I am always interested in why people choose to do the work they do, so I asked why he chose the T.V. industry.  "For the money," he said.

Well, I had nothing to say about it after that.  Think about spending the rest of your life working at something you don't love, only because you're mainly interested in the money.

I think I've gone off-topic.

Play "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" then play "Flight of the Bumble Bee" and report back.

That all things do indeed pass is revealed when a child's sadness turns to laughter.
That transition is hardly representative of all things.

Most depression is only anger, most anger, fear
False. The two main causes of depression are the inability to meet your basic needs and chemical imbalances in the brain.

IMO, the "chemical imbalance" hypothesis of depression is hardly convincing due to lack of evidence.

Why do you say there is a lack of evidence, Phen?

I have not seen enough evidence to meet my standard of proof for concluding that depression is the result of a chemical imbalance in the brain. I believe that it is possible for chemical imbalances to result in depression, but this may not be the only cause and may not even be the major cause.

I thought perhaps you were saying that you had not seen anything constituting sufficient evidence that chemical imbalances exist. This has been an interest of mine, as there is no real evidence that ADHD exists, that ADHD is only its symptoms. I thought perhaps you were saying the same thing about depression and chemical imbalances.

I am not sure what the definition of "imbalance" is, but I take it to generally mean an 'statistically unusual, altered neurochemical state.' I believe that such states can exist and that they can cause altered states of mind, but whether or not certain mental disorders are the result of chemical imbalances is still an open question to me.

I agree about ADHD, btw.

Row your boat is a very difficult melody...the flight of the bumble bee is very simple hence I cannot play it.

sincere laughter and a sincere smile come from the heart. but your right in that laughter and a smile can be an act of agression or fear, definitely.

A serious one...

The purpose of life is to live, nothing less.

and also...

what if there were no hypothetical situations?

Jumped in a river, what did I see?
Black eyed angels swimming with me
Moon full of stars and astral cars, all the figures I used to see
All my lovers were there with me
All my past and all my futures
We went to heaven in a little rowboat
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt
