That's really shitty, but not surprising

When we became medicinal, growing was allowed for the first 2 years.  The big biz guys HATED it and fought for our grow rights to be stripped.

While you could buy clones at "donation centers" (they weren't allowed to be called dispensaries yet and medicine was "donated" not purchased), most places were very shady about it.  First they would ask you to sign away your grow rights.  "Yeah, man.  Sign here for us to take over your grow rights and we'll show you EVERYTHING.  You'll learn how to grow, help maintain & harvest".  What a load of shit.

Not only did I not do such a thing, they never followed up with the people that were dumb enough to fall for it.  I did buy a couple clones from them though and it RUINED my whole grow.  They were scrubbing their clones before they up for sale because they were infected with white power mildew.  Such a fucking disgrace.  I had to bleach sanitize my entire operation because that shit is air born immediately and contaminated everything.

Needless to say, they were raided by the feds and shut down for other shady shit too.  I had just started growing but I learned my lesson big time.

Not sure of the origin honestly.

It's a strain that my father and uncles have been growing for about 20-25 years.
I've been working with it for about 8-9 years.

It puts out quite a few phenotypes, always some shade of purple and very fruity smell/taste.

It's not the most potent strain I've grown but certainly my favorite as it always reminds me of the holidays with my family.

People dont realize that when theres a strain with a specific name this is just ONE phenotype. A phenotype is like one of two twins. Even though they're twins they are still different. You know how theres og kush OG kush #18 etc. These are simply different phenotypes of the same plant they are/were all og kush seeds but they come up all different.

These select phenotypes are then breed out to create some of the most elite strains known to man. Anybody can find a gem from any seed it's just not likely unless you know of the genetics. Blue dream for example is just called blue dream, but there are a plethora of different phenotypes that dispensaries just call blue dream. Some of these plants are actually fake. When I say fake I mean they are created by breeding the same plants that created the well known phenotypes. But like I said no two plants are the same so they create similar cannabis but they aren't truly blue dream. With any named strain you have to get as a clone direct descendant of the first true mother otherwise it's just a plant bred to resemble the original.

What I just described is what you will get from ANY pack of seeds that's you grow out. Every single seed is different. If you purchase blue dream seeds they will be similar to what blue dream is like but they aren't the original blue dream.

If I could find pure sativa seeds I would love that. I miss the old columbian stuff, and "sinsemellia".

This is what my dad says all the time. Hes always like dude this thai stick ermagherd etc. Its very interesting I wonder if the old world pot heads still grow these staple phenotypes or if they lost them through the years because I dont see ANYTHING resembling the old original land race strains and I know they're just as good as any new school hybrids.

Yup. Though if you look for DJ Short's blueberry you'll still find Danny slinging seeds. They'll cost you more than the competitor's, but you'll have the original. Will it be better? It certainly might be! But if you fuck your grow up you'll still be left with shitweed. My point being, it's not as simple as finding "the original", nor is it necessary to use the original genetics to grow good pot. I've grown very good pot out of mediocre weed bagseed, and I've fucked up plants that cost me over 10 bucks a seed. Life. It's what you make of it!  :havesomescience:

Pure Sativa you say? Heirloom strains you say? Try Dr. Grinspoon by Barney's Farm!

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm planning to when I have stash. It's got one hell of a blooming period, that's why I'm holding off for now.

Its definitely not necessary to have the original. But I'd say it's worth having almost any well known original.  The terpene profile bud structure and potency are insane on some of the most well known strains. There is such thing as amazing cannabis. A bud you can chop at 8 weeks dry in 5 days that tastes strong and gets you extremely high is hard to find. These are the characteristics of elite clone only well known strains.

I dont think I've ever smoked a true sativa land race strain which I'd love to. I've got 3 strains all star dawg crosses that really love to go 11 weeks but that's the closest I've got to having any sativa

Yeah, and you know what? After 2 years in whatever storage you got em in, they start losing a whole lot of their magic. Sorry to break it to you dude, but time is fleeting, and so is every experience in life. That's why I say find the parent strains and the daughter strains, and see what's become of those. Look to recreate the miracle in a new experience, because you sure as hell ain't gonna get back the original experience.

This losing of magic is well documented but I dont think its proven scientifically. Personally I think any degradation of potency or change in structure or essential oil profiles come from an unhealthy growing environment. Which can mean alot, for example not changing up nutrients grow media temperature etc any strain over many years probably has negative effects on the plants genetic profile but that's all speculation.

It is smart to keep breeding 'up' by crossing really good cannabis with more really good cannabis. This is after all how we have so many great plants with more being created regularly. I've grown for 5 years which I recognize is not very long but I was living off the income produced by the grow for a couple years into the 5 and I had to figure shit out or I wasn't going to pay my Bill's. I learned a lot about what makes a plant 'good' and why people do the things they do regarding breeding plants and keeping certain ones while discarding others. It's a numbers game but when you find a gem then you are pretty well off.

Why do you think some clones and seed packs cost more than others? Because they are breed from original strains that created what we know as mainstream cannabis. When kept in a healthy environment they can maintain the same plant profile as if the seed was just popped.

I think you're right about life experiences but seem kind of confused you say they lose their magic but to find the parents which are older which would have lost more magic than the offspring
And do you mean recreate the miracle by breeding out to other plants because I agree with that completely. Settling in general is not conducive to an exciting life experience.

I know how plants work but with a good bloodline you have higher chance of that pheno an other genes that make that smoke.
You can eventually breed in a stabilize what you want.

Purp is purple idc if its just a green pheno its not legit "purp".

An its not that purple makes it more fire its that all the legit purp ive had has been fire with a psychedelic tingle an euphoric energy.
Purp has a special place in my memories cause thats what i first started smoking an i very rarely come across anything ti come close to that pleasurable an forfilling high.

Its not just weed to me its my smoke an i enjoy my smoke very much, as a kid i didnt care but now that im older im starting to notice the finer more subtle things that really make me enjoy whatever im doing.

Plus you can be like yea i got some purp:stoned::yesnod:

The same cutting can look different in a lot of ways, from different growers.  Genetics is half, environment for dna activation is another half.

There are old school reminents floating around.  Mostly crossed with other old school.  Pheno hunting is always a big thing abd cuttings spread disease.  So find good parents or what you tracked the lineage of, from a rep+ breeder and carefully grow each seed.  Kill off males until you have a good stock of ladies then find a great male and let pollen fly.

Growing gets very complicated if not practicing strict non-attachment.  So many seeds over the years and only so much dedicated to all the complicated nature of a plant.

Big biz, well they could make or break cannabis.  Support good ethical biz!  Greed gets a lot of folks in all industries.

West coast won't be much in the biz if feds go green and states realize the profits.

All these names for weed is out of hand. I have found that if I grow a plant and it's a female it's good. It's so hybridized now that getting a pure sativa or indica seems impossible. Plus all the strains are pretty potent no matter what IMHO. I'm just happy I can grow one plant or two and not have the fear of getting busted.

Yep, and I have found the female is the best no matter the "strain" or indica or sativa. I have grown brickweed seeds and it has turned out fantastic. I stated earlier that this weed business is getting like the wine BS, so much snobbery and pretentiousness. I say the best weed I get is the weed I grow. I also notice the taste and smell is different because I don't feed it the last 3-4 months of growth. It's not all tightly packed buds and I don't trim off all those small crystallized leaves either. To each their own. Party on garth!
