nostalgia is a recognition that you can't get back to that time
feel more appreciative of an old song? You're not going to be able to go back and sing it louder and with more heart than you did at the time

think it is a form of regret of not making the most of something while it lasted

I don't know, guys...sounds pretty silly to me. Aspects of nostalgia can be negative, I suppose...but it's not a dark blanketed feeling of regret when I wanna revisit some 90's tunes. Everything is so over-analyzed these days, and it's making people crazy.

may have misportrayed my intended position relative to the postulate of it being a form of regret
it is not to say that reflecting on things is a bad thing
but, for me, will revisit songs from my teenage years
and remember how awesome it was to be front row with my friends singing along with those bands live

the lens of having lived beyond another decade, has increased my appreciation for that previous moment
and my regret is not being able to truly go back to that time and instill it with all the additional meaning the moment and its soundtrack have come to have for me
this is an overwhelmingly positive form of regret; hence reterming it as 'nostalgia' to distinguish it from just a sadness

it's like reflecting on people I have loved and lost -- wishing to have hugged them more often and even tighter does not diminish the warmth and appreciation for the huge impact they did have on my life

some people get stuck in the past and dont live for today.

i dont think remembering times that have past is a bad thing but it can fog your view of today.

we all know a person who always says 'remember that time when...' and thats okay sometimes but what about the time right NOW.

i guess its a perspective thing

i wouldnt change a thing in my past because it made me what i am today, who knows if something seemingly insignificant if changed would make you a different person.
