Bout to try some new lids

I'm gonna give a pack of these a shot:

I think they're gonna be a fucking dream with a SFD glued down with silicone.

We'll see in a few weeks when they show up and the jars I use them on finish colonizing.

I'm mostly posting to let others know in case they want to try them along with me.

Sounds perfect as long as the seal doesn't stick. Do they come in wide mouth?

Do siliconed SFDs not stick to plastic one piece lids well? Very curious why you're gravitating towards steel.

Not as well as metal. I doubt they're steel. Plastic lids can also warp if they're not backed off a little, which I don't like.

They won't rust to a point where it matters for a long damn time if you don't just leave them wet when you clean them. If I have to spend $50-60 every 2 years that's fine.

guaranteed they are steel. looks promising. biggest question is how the seal material holds up.

those stainless ones look neat too, but expensive. and if you clean with bleach, they can also rust.

i'd leave any lid backed off just a hair for the pc run since they'll certainly expand at a different rate than the glass. either they expand more, and a slight tightening before everything cools all the way gets them super stuck, or they expand less and the glass strains against them in the cooker, wearing them out. plastic ones deffo expand more and get stuck when tightened before they're fully cooled.

They will probably work but they're more than $1 each.

If you sand the lid it sticks very well, it's a key thing when using silicone to seal something (a tip from the boat world)

I'm interested in trying the ball brand plastic lids for use with the rings. Found some in a local hardware store. Tired of seeing rust on my micropore tape.

I got these in and popped some holes in them. They all fit well and the rubber under the lid gave a little resistance, so I think they'll work. Honestly I wasn't too worried about how good the rubber was, considering I do normal lids rubber side up.

I'm not ready to run any spawn yet but I'll update when I am. I'm about to order some SFDs to attach to them.
