My brother is a food stamp deadbeat poster child. He’s also a junkie, so $165 in food stamps gets traded for $80 cash at the corner deli. This is why I roll my eyes at the argument that some Americans won’t be able to utilize their $1000 responsibly. They already can’t. Meanwhile, those who ARE responsible would substantially improve their day-to-day lives.

Now, where that $1000 comes from is another question entirely...

I believe UBI will not change much for the majority but may help those who have recognized the error of there financial ways to dig em out of debt so they can start investing into the new economy that is developing around AI.

I asked quite a few rich kids if there parents are teaching them finance and all of them said, yes or a little. The middle class and under, all of them have said no and some even asked what finance is.
Kinda tells ya something about our culture and public education systems design.

80% of Americans are financially illiterate and it is not just the junkies and baby machines.
The 20% (investors) will throw the extra 1k into investments. It's free "extra" money so investing it is a no brainier.
Meanwhile the millions of well trained Americans will blow it on consumer goods that go right back into big corps pocket and into investments with sweet tax loopholes.

Lets face it, our culture dislikes the working class and taxes them the most because they refuse to invest into the economy that is run by the financially literate.
They gotta tax someone right?

Why do you think the economy did so well with the trump tax breaks,,,, because investors can now invest more into the economy.
As for the workers?  :broke: There still doing what they do.

This country needs some financial education and entrepreneur courses in our public schools rather than, learn to do job, work, be entertained, over spend so you look successful, make more babies and finally go into to debt or have no passive income at retirement.

UBI is a win win but does not solve the core of the problem: lack of proper financial education.

Example:
New Iphone super luxury XXXIIII Kanye West addition has just been released.

The unwise will take that 1k a month or pay extra interest via credit card to buy a $5,000 phone while the wise will put that $5,000 that would be spent on a phone into the companies stocks that are selling that phone.
Phone goes out of style or obsolete in a year or so. Chances are that it will break because it is cheaply made, new Taylor swift addition comes out with the boyfriend block app while the stock continues to grow slowly over time. :awesomenod:

Most sport stars and lottery winners go bankrupt so it is no mystery why most Americans fall into the debt trap of pretending to be rich.

“I don't want a nation of thinkers, I want a nation of workers.” John D Rockafeller

He achieved that goal splendidly.

Money is a tool and only a bad carpenter will bitch about his shitty tools when there craftsmanship and discipline sucks. :justdontknow:

Workers need a lift out of the drowning debt but just throwing money at the problem of stupid wont fix a damn thing.
We need real education that caters to the future, not the 1900s.

I agree with your entire post, except this:

R.I.P.Zappa said:

They're actually the ones that invest everything they earn into the economy, and who I believe our culture would like to tax the least.  But the financially literate own Congress, and are able to push taxes away from themselves onto the working class.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

I find your contempt for the working class, and your glorification of the usurious activity they call 'investing', disturbing.

Quote:

Whose culture is that?  Ours?  Our culture dislikes the people out there doing the work and we prefer the usurers who skim off the top of everything without working for it?

No, the real economy didn't benefit from the Trump tax cuts. The vast majority of the tax cuts went into share buybacks that lifted the stock markets higher.

The very wealthy have very little motivation to invest into the real economy at this point, that's why the tax cuts were going to be a failure before it was even implemented.

I think the term 'Junkie' is a shitty term, but I use it myself. People develop drug addictions for a variety of reasons, and until you've been there, you will probably never understand what it means to be your brother. He's not garbage for having a drug problem.

That is exactly the reason I made that post though. If I were receiving $1,000 a month, I can promise you a significant portion would have ended up in Sinaloa. I will say though, drug addicts aren't the only people with irresponsible spending habits. I hear about people all the time with $50,000 in credit card debt, and it blows my fucking mind. People have gambling habits. People have unhealthy shopping habits. People are irresponsible with their money, which is why we have Social Security in the first place.

That $1,000, I believe, is roughly the cost of our current social programs, including overhead. Those programs would be replaced.

If UBI were only applied to citizens over 18 years old, that would cost roughly $3,139,200,000,000, at $1,000 a month. That's a trillion dollars more than the Iraq war.

That's almost our entire tax revenue for 2020.

For someone who claims to be against pc culture, it's really amusing that you are the forum master of using pc language; and not in response to bumping up against the "community standards" - no you were displaying this trait long before then - you use neutered language to avoid being pinned to untenable positions while attempting to undermine viewpoints you disagree with.

Example: that was a lot of pc words used just to say "I don't like that this community supports self-defence against fascists".

No, I have been careful with my words to explain my position without being banned. That's not being PC, it's conforming to the obvious double standards. In fact, even playing by the rules didn't assure any safety after a Mod decided I violated his arbitrary "community standards" on that particular day.

You have the freedom to post any radical idea you choose even if that includes inflicting violence on innocent people that you disagree with on the political spectrum.

So instead of ridiculing me for trying to survive on this site, you should grateful that you're on the beneficiary side of voicing anything you choose and still being on the correct side of the "community standards"  I don't have that luxury.

Either way, I won't derail the thread any further on this topic.

I believe you clarified the quote because that was my intention with it.

I can see how the phrase "our culture" derails or leaves it open for interpretation.

By our culture, I mean the unfettered consumerism that is encouraged by shaping our perception of reality that what it takes to be successful; which is by outward appearance and possessions rather than how valuable you are.

A wise man once said, if you are not happy with what you have now, how will having double of it make you any happier?

I am talking about financial security, not being wealthy/greedy.

The economy is changing but the way people spend money is not and the people are being left behind like cattle to the slaughter. I highly doubt the mega wealthy build those bunkers to save them from bombs. :lmafo:

@john
Check your emotions. I get the impression you feel defeated and I don't blame ya.

Moneys not the problem, it is how people have been using it and view it that got us were we are right now.
Money is not evil, it is the love of money that is evil.

I honestly wish the people that invented money were made an example of as a warning to the rest of humanity back in the day.
It drives us to an end we cannot see at a faster rate than we can control.
It gives sick spirited people to much power to do as they please and control whom they please.
It also takes allot of hard work, time and research to invest money properly. Investments are not just stocks. It can be stocks, a business, an education. So I don't get this, little work for shit tons of money BS unless your talking about trust fund babies.
Ever think about starting a business so you can pay your employees a more than fair wage so they can invest in themselves? Steal the greedy fuckers good workers. :awesomenod:
I get it though there are those who have a rich daddy to lend ya a couple mil while they have no idea of what it takes to live without easy money.
That is the difference between an entrepreneur and a trust fund baby. Entrepreneurs don't think like the pack.

I feel ya John, I hate it as well but like the people overrun by a superior force, you need to use their own weapons against them or just sit n cry about it. :justdontknow:
Many of them want us financially illiterate like the wife beater that doesn't teach his wife to shoot a gun. It may already be to late but we will probably find out in the next decade if our votes even matter anymore.
Nothing like my boss calling us the masses and how he will replace us as soon as a robot is available then cry's about how Trump is mistreated.
Makes me want to show him how he bleeds like the rest of us and make some rib eyes and center cuts out of his fat ass for being so out of touch.

I just hope another establishment fuck or inheritance recipient doesn't get into office and we get these fucking lifers out of capitol hill with some term limits. Enough is enough IMO but I'm not gonna just sit and cry about like I'm expected to.
Humans behavior is the most researched field in all of science.
We are always being manipulated to feel inadequate and point the finger rather than getting off our asses and putting some value back into our communities and children. Instead we willingly plant these seeds in there head with words instead of proof by action.
Always remember, a lover of money will sell you the very rope you plan to hang him with if he stands to make a profit. It is in the very fiber of there nature, exploit it.

I have nothing against addicts in general, I guess I used “junkie” subconsciously cause I’m pissed at my brother. He had every chance to start over but he finds ways to fuck it all up, without fail...

And I’m about $10k deep in credit card debt too:mad2: But if I had an extra $1000 per month, I’d be debt free in 6 months instead of a year+

Should I bother plugging ibogaine for addictions again?  That stuff can snap an addict right out of it forever.

It heals the brain's inflamed receptors that scream for their substance.  The addict doesn't even go through withdrawal.

You can buy a dose online for about $500.  IbogaineHCL.  That's the thing.

Look into it, this isn't fake.  Ive seen it work.

The thing about addicts is, unless they are helping themselves, you can't help them. You can make it worse, and prolong the process, by trying to help. You can only get hurt in the meantime. I tell anyone who has any kind of relationship with an addict that, the power you have over their addiction is to withdraw from the whole situation.

Many of us have started over, many times. I just visited my brother in prison, and he was asking me to sneak him some methadone... He's been sober 3.5 years.

From what I understand, Ibogaine is the most hellish trip imagineable. I don't know much about it though. I should look into it. I thought that was mostly for heroin.

World Seed Supply occasionally sells Iboga berries... Or they used to.. To grow the plant. I believe it's illegal in the US.
