Poppy leaves?
    #2570366 - 04/17/04 06:07 AM (20 years, 3 days ago)

Well I know that in order to make opium or poppy tea, one needs the seed pods. However, I happened to come across some leaves from an active poppy plant. Do these contain any significant level of opiates? Is there any method to extract some activity from them? I would think not, that the leaves (much like the leaves of the marijuana plant, only more so) only contain traces of the opiate goodness (or bad-ness, depending upon how you look at it), and thus are mostly useless for any extraction.

But maybe I'm wrong.... come on somebody prove me wrong and make me happy!

you can make tea from leaves and the stem, the seeds are the only part on poppies that doesnt contain any trace of morphine. but you need a lot of leaves to feel any effect tho. im not sure how much

Thanks for the move, Alkaloidaholic... wasn't sure if it should go here or in ODD... I'll try to search the net for some info as to the amount of opiates in the leaves, and report back with any findings.

It does work, although I don't enjoy the effects from it very much. The alkaloid composition is quite different from the one in the pods, lower ratio of goodies compared to the nasties IME.

What would the dosage (in dried grams) be around?

Impossible to say since different strains have different alkaloid levels. Some are weak and some are very strong. Try three times the weight you would need from the pods of the same strain. I understand you might not know the pod-dose of your material, but this is the closest thing to an advice I can give you.

Make a tea with your plant material using distilled water.Strain plant and then evaporate water. You will be left with a black tar.
We used to put a spoonful in our coffee in the morning. When I discovered hot knives and paper cones I got strung out in a week.
Like the flu for three days, only worse.

how easy is it to grow these poppies? I think they are pretty small plants, so how many plants would you need to get something significant? and these plants are dead once you extract the opiates right?
I know there is a difference like you said above with strains, but a ball park would be sufficient

>>>how is this material different than opium? <<<
what? the tea? the tea has opium in it. it's an extraction technique.

as far as growing em is concerned it is fairly easy. and they aren't really that small...they don't develop into a tree or anything but they do reach a pretty big size...around 3'-5'. definately not small enough to go unnoticed. in fact their flower is so beautiful everyone in the neighborhood will come to admire it's awe and beauty ..so it might be a good idea to plant in the back. a strain that does stay somewhat small are the persians. how many plants for something worthwhile? just about a patch or so( around 10-12 plants). you should get a little bit of opium going, not a shitload but some.

peace

poppies can grow indoors and produce latex but the yeild can be low and have a not so amazing potency. poppies do 10 times better if grown outdoors. growing em indoors, imo, is just a waste of time.

The whole plant can be used for tea and putty. Screw tea, make putty... do a search in this forum for the method. It's better to swallow a ball without tasting a thing then to down a huge glass of nasty tasting stuff... that's how I see it. Also putty can be extracted further to morphine base... heroin #1.
