 Mini Shoe-box: Should I case it? How does it look?

Title states all. This is my first official foray into bulk. Been colonize about a week (give or take a few days). Everything look ok? Should it be cased now or just left alone? Tried my best to keep it near a 1:1 ratio but is more like 1:1.5

Can I ask did u case with your substrate. (the same material as your substrate minus the grain spawn)?
If so I'd leave it as is. I'd probably leave it as is anywayz your growth looks good. Surface conditions look spot on

I did BRF cake to bulk using Coir and Verm. I did not case it after mixing the two together.

What would casing it alter? I am completely down to leave it alone lol, saves me having to try and cut a chunk off my brick of coir. That shit makes a mess when you take a saw or knife to it.

Done correctly... Correctly being the key word it can improve your yield.

Well this is where lingo comes into play a little. A legit casing done correctly does not colonize. Or very minimally if it does.
Using your substrate material is more of a psudo casing because it ends up getting colonized most times. So it ends up being more of a extension of the body of your substrate. Which also helps with better more even pin sets

Alrighty. You have confirmed what logic was trying to tell me lol. Thank you very much for the information.
I have noticed that the top layer of myc in my bin has flattened out and looks thick instead of poofy. I assume that means I am not far from pins? I am going off of what my jars do, they start out fluffy but get thick and matted once almost fully colonised/

You wanna try to prevent matting on bulk substrates. You'll still get fruits but u won't get those nice full canopies u see ppl post. Using a psudo casing helps to aid in preventing matting

Interesting. Guess all I can do is wait and see; this is my first official attempt at going to bulk. Tried once before but I was just dicking around with some cakes that stalled/refused to colonize sections. Obviously that ended in disaster and black pin mold lol
