Do you reheat your agar?

Hi y'all, My cousins, boyfriend's, crossing gaurd made some MEA last night and she got side tracked...
She has about 250ml of MEA sterile, but it's gelled.
She's afraid that if she tries to reheat it, the sugars will carmalize.
So... do any of you reheat your agar? And if so at what temperature?
Thanks, Lana

I have regelled? before. I have used slow heating in the microwave or slow heating in a water bath, both with no discernable differences over the initial heating of agar.

I have not done this myself, but a google search shows that solidified agar turns fluid at ~90?C, and that sugars caramelize at >120?C. So unless one pressure cooks the agar, there is no risk for that to happen. (Just to confirm what Joshua wrote.)

The standard preparation of agar calls for pressure cooking at 15 lbs for 15-20 minutes which is equal to just over 120 C. Higher concentrations of sugar, higher temps, or longer cooking can all lead to an increase in caramelization.

I have re-PCd it at 10 psi for 10 minutes with no problems... the microwave also worked really well...

i had my agar stored in plastic viles (god im retarded) and i was having contam problems heating it back up (obviously)... and my hippy teacher at school suggested i stick the gelled agar in my petri dishes, stick them on a cookie sheet, and put them in the oven at 250 degrees for 45mins-1hr and it worked fine... im cloning shitakii mycelium on it right now...

I have reheated peroxidated PDSA to boiling point in a microwave before and it worked just fine. Obviously I had to add more H202 to the media though as it decomposes at 140 F
