If you look at it in its natural habitat it doesn’t look like what you suggested.

Similar but different more of a rounded smoother cap and thicker stem.

Anyone else think it’s this?

There are far better Panaeolus folks here than I will ever be. They might not be checking in much Christmas day but they'll come around before long either way.

I'll take a semi educated stab in the dark. Definately panaeolus, the one I see that fits by how dark the caps are is panaeolus olivaceus. I'm no expert but I have a soft spot for panaeolus

Is Panaeolus an active edible species?

I looked it up it and think it is Psilocybin, can someone please confirm I could eat this species?

There are many species of Panaeolus. A handfull of them are psychoactive and none are toxic.

You’d have to eat a lot more than a small piece to feel anything fwiw

Thanks, it will be a small safety test on my part since it’s my first wild mushroom I’ve ever eaten.  Then maybe I’ll eat a stem to test.

I’ve microdosed by eating a stem before and felt something...  I’m a newb so better safe than sorry.

When requesting an identification, it will help us if you would post up close pictures of the cap, gills and stipe that are clear and in focus.

Thanks for the info, next time I will try and post better pics.

Last night I ate a small cap and a half stem.  They Definitely seemed active, I kind of had a hard time sleeping and felt a little trippy. Even today I was feeling a little trippy but I did smoke a little weed and drank some wine with the mushroom last night.

Please don't eat anything that has not been identified 100%, some mushrooms are unforgiving.  You most likely experienced a placebo effect, the mushrooms in your pictures do not look active in my opinion.

With most of the Panaeolus, even the active ones that is not a sufficient quantity to tell. With that said, even though there are no toxic Panaeolus species Doc's comment is good advice. Eating unkown mushrooms isn't often a good way to determine edibility or psychoactivity.

You could easily eat a 'test dosage' of psychoactives insufficient to tell they are active. You could likewise eat an insufficient dosage of deadly toxic mushrooms to tell they were at all toxic. Or you could make yourself very ill.
