So there is no "auto off" function? Only alarm which beeps so you can go there and turn off PID and heater?

I have a timer on both my steamer and my PC but as I am sure you know you have to wait until your agar cools to around 140F before you pour it so I have my PID set up to sound a loud alarm so I know when to pour my agar plates. I got a free stove from Craigslist to build a high-powered hot plate to power my PC.

It is best to automate anything you can so you don't spend a lot of time because time is where most of your expense will be.

I only run bags in my drum, not agar. But okay, you give me indirect answer that there is no auto off I guess. I just need to install kWh meter in my electrical box and I am good. I really want to know how much cycle cost. Or not. It is what it is, I need that drum anyway.

I am sorry my friend but you really need to read what I am saying. If there is a timer on both my steamer and my PC then yes there is an auto-off that is what a timer does it automatically turns things off. I press a button and I can come back days later and my bags are done without ever having to keep an eye on it.
I do my agar in a PC, not in my steamer and it is also PID controlled so I do not have to babysit it and yes my PC also has an automatic shut off.
Yes, a KWH meter will tell you how much electricity you use in kilowatt-hours then you just take the kilowatts used and times it by the cost of your kilowatt-hour (your electric bill will tell you the cost of a KWH) I cost me about $1.80 to run a cycle in my steamer.
If you buy a kilowatt meter make sure it is one you can reset to zero before a cycle or you will have to write down what the meter is at before you start.

Actually you didn't read what I am asking. I was asking if PID has build in timer to shut off whole thing. I don't care if you have timers or not. I am interested in PID functions. But anyway, thanks for answering.

Ok, I stand corrected you did ask about the PID programing. The PID has no timer function. I use a Sylvania SA160 20 Amp timer. If you use more than 20 amps just have the timer shut off the PID and not the drum. Actually, I prefer to turn off the PID. Almost any digital timer will work if you wire it this way because the PID draws very few amps.

If you have an inkbird PID this may help you set it up...

PIDs don't have timers
