A 'career guidance' forum? * 1
    #25694081 - 12/21/18 03:50 PM (5 years, 3 months ago)

I see that there's a 'Shroomery University' one but having a place to share tips on getting jobs, career advancement, choosing a vocation and etc might be nice.

Not sure if this already exists?

Thanks.

Sometimes you can see these types of poasts in The Pub, but I'd be generally skeptical of too much of the career advice from the shroomery. As a community we are pretty 'out-there'.  Money Matters is probably the sub-forum that would be the most serious and on-topic, and it loosely fits within the guidelines and scope, but doesn't get as much traffic as The Pub.

Did you have a specific question or just curious?

Seems like The Pub is the go-to place for everything really. Music, politics, etc. Not sure how these other forums have any views at all.

@King Klick, lots of questions and just generally curious. Seems like it's be a good, positive direction. Just perhaps as a reminder to The Shroomery that normal jobs exist? And how to re-enter society for those that have strayed.

Most of us strayed on purpose. And everyone knows normal jobs exist.

Wonderful. Very edgy.

So, no new career forum to help people choose a major and figure out social engineering tips for that raise? Oh well...

Might be a great sub-forum for Money Matters :strokebeard:

It would be interesting I think.

Many old heads will be able to share stories from their past jobs in life. The do and do nots.

But like Ahab said, take it with a grain.

Know what I would find interesting?

The Shroomery developing in the direction of a classical fraternity, in that we pull strings for each other to set each other up with what we need in life, breaks, favors, a foot in the door for jobs etc.

None of us are as well connected as all of us.

The Shroomery has so much potential for cooperation. What one lacks in substance the other has in abundance.

It would be great if community spirit became stronger.

There is always the option to create the Career Advice Forum in the user created forums, to take it in your own hands, arrange for its traffic and moderation, make it your own addition to the community, and with it, enriching it.

If you can get enough buzz going for such a user created forum and promoise to moderate it well, perhaps put a link to it in your signature to draw traffic etc, then I can make one for you as a "user created forum" and have you inherit it. If it snowballs into a Big Thing, the admin team might possibly be swayed to make it a sub forum of Money Matters.

How's that?

Sounds good.

Not sure I have the time and endurance to turn it into a useful thing though.

Too busy, yknow, trying to piece my life together, heh.

Yeah, the fraternity thing.

I believe in that. To be honest, after all these years here, I am just getting to know some people on a personal level.

I like that.
