US withdraw from Syria
    #25693085 -

We’re also supposed to be withdrawing a lot of troops from Afghanistan. It was announced over Twitter but the fact that Mattis just resigned makes me think it’s real.

except that any withdrawal of troops needs to be planned by both the military and state department in coordination with the gov't of the country from which we're withdrawing so as to determine the best way to withdraw while leaving stability.  it shouldn't be planned by someone who knows little to nothing of military affairs (if, as it seems, it was something not planned by the DOD).

According to this axios report the generals really know nothing more than we do. It's reports like this that make me wonder if this will even happen, it could just be the twittler in cheif trying to, "DO SOMETHING!" to distract from all of the problems. There's no rational to announce something on twitter before even discussing it with your top military council.

Quote:
President Trump's sudden orders to withdraw troops from Syria and Afghanistan — and Defense Secretary James Mattis' subsequent resignation — have left even the most high-ranking U.S. military officials questioning what they should be telling their troops on the ground, the Wall Street Journal reports.
“I don’t think anybody really knows exactly what’s going to happen. I’ve read the same stuff in the newspaper you did, I have a little more knowledge than that, but not a whole lot more.”
— Gen. Robert Neller, commandant of the Marine Corps.

The big picture: Military commanders have reportedly received "no timelines, hard numbers or orders" from the Pentagon — “Nothing formal, just tweets,” said Navy Secretary Richard Spencer. One official told the Journal that the resignation of Mattis was "more devastating" than the withdrawal, while another said that the defense secretary's exit in late February would allow for "adequate continuity." This was, of course, before Trump revealed Sunday that Mattis would be forced out by Jan. 1.

We need to withdraw from all countries and worry about our damn country,  our morale

Our economy which inflation slowly goes up non stop because of overpopulation,  wasting tax dollara on needless shit and agencys like the DEA

We should legalize and tax all drugs and fucking fix this countries economy literally from drug money

Better edcuation,  better healthcare,  less welfare and more tax revenue
Also if we dismantle the DEA that is saving billions a year on funding for a lost cause and stupid conservative ideals set back from Dick Nixon who is like our current cronie

Rhetoric getting amped up:

www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/ex-nato-commander-allies-wondering-if-trump-was-blackmailed-to-pull-troops-out-of-syria

A former commander of NATO said allies of the U.S. are asking whether President Trump was blackmailed by Turkey to pull U.S. military forces out of Syria.

In a CNN segment Monday, Wesley Clark, a retired Army general and former Democratic presidential candidate, said there was no apparent strategic logic for the move that critics view as an abdication to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"You have to ask why was the decision made?" Clarke said on Christmas Eve. "People around the world are asking this and some of our friends and allies in the Middle East are asking, did Erdogan blackmail the president? Was there a payoff or something? Why would a guy make a decision like this? Because all the recommendations were against it. And it looked like all the facts were against it, too."

"We're not quite finished with we're not taking a lot of casualties over there," he added. "The Kurds have been reliable allies. Why do this right now?"

Trump declared last week the U.S. had defeated the Islamic State and announced the rapid withdrawal of all U.S. ground troops from Syria, where they have been assisting local Kurdish and Arab forces to fight the terror group.

Where did you get "100k or more" from?  Your article says "more than 100,000 Syrian detainees remain unaccounted for. According to the United Nations and human rights groups, thousands, if not tens of thousands, are probably dead."  Probably???

The Washington Post (the reigning king of fake news) is the only one pushing this story.  It is based on the testimony of "two former detainees" previously released by Assad.

Just curious - how do you think released prisoners who are now in Turkey know what is going on in the Syrian prisons today?

Did I say that?  Why do you keep make believing things I said?

What I said is that Fox actually wants evidence, and that they are willing to present actual facts that are unpopular with Russiagaters, such as the Comey quote I posted above.

And there's an entire transcript of what was said on the House of Representatives website, so the report clearly isn't fake.

I credit the establishment media for turning American liberals into anything that goes against Trump, even peace in Syria.

Did he say "he did not know if the evidence was credible" or did he even say he had any evidence, or did you just make believe that again?

He said (and this is the actual quote): "We opened them in late July, didn't know whether we had anything.  In fact, when I was fired as director, I still didn't know whether there was anything to it."

He also said:  "Did we have evidence in July of '16 that anyone in the Trump campaign conspired to hack the DNC server? The challenge in answering that is - and please don't take this nonanswer to imply that there is such information - I don't think that the FBI and special counsel want me answering questions that may relate to their investigation of Russian interference during 2016. And I worry that that would cross that line, Mr. Gowdy."

In other words, "please don't take my (non)answer to imply that there is any evidence"

You keep make believing what other people say.

So you would say thst an eye witness testimony is proof thst someone commited the crime? I would say it is evidence, but not proof. Every hit I see on google agrees with this.

Quote:
Proof vs. Evidence

Another word that is commonly misused (sadly, sometimes even by scientists, who should know better) is "proof".

What "proof" means in everyday speech:
In casual conversations, most people use the word "proof" when they mean that there is indisputable evidence that supports an idea.

Scientists should be wary of using the term "proof". Science does not "prove" things. Science can and does provide evidence in favor of, or against, a particular idea. In science, proofs are possible only in the highly abstract world of mathematics.

What should scientists say instead of "proof"?
Scientists should use the term "evidence" instead of the word "proof". When we test our hypotheses, we obtain evidence that supports or rejects the hypotheses. We do not "prove" our hypotheses.

While this may seem like a subtle difference, the words we use can subconsciously color our thinking. "Proof" suggests that a matter is completely settled, that we have had the last word on something.

It's evidence and proof.  Is it proof beyond a shadow of a doubt? No. It's certainly enough to convict someone in america,  though. That means it definitely can be proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

What you linked is scientific proof which is completely different.

The opposite is true.  There is more than two types of evidence, as you've implied with krypto.  Evidence can range from reasonable suspicion to preponderance of the evidence, to clear and convincing evidence, to beyond a reasonable doubt, to mathematical proof.

I feel like you're getting side tracked. Colliquially proof and evidence are often used interchangeably, some people such as myself use the more strict definition and most tend to acknowledge it once it's brought up (the distinction can be useful). It's important to make sure we're using the same vocabulary, if I'm calling evidence what he considers proof we could be arguing over nothing without realizing it (this happened before with us which is why I brought it up).

The whole point of this was to point out the distinction thst the fox news headline was not true when using evidence to mean what it does in a legal sense as opposed to proof/without a doubt. If they had said proof it would be a true headline, but they said evidence. I believe to confuse the public over the colliquial use and the legal use of the term, in effect weakening the evidence itself in the public perception. What are your thoughts on their claim of "no evidence?" Do you agree thst the headline is not true?

That's no more than reasonable suspicion.  If we let Enlil derail this with semantics, there may be some definition somewhere where that counts as proof.

The criminal act of hacking and releasing the DNC emails changed the outcome of the election. To claim otherwise you would have to argue that less than 1% of democratic voters decided to not vote for hillary or not vote at all. You have to argue that the outrage over DNC corruption expressed within the party had no effect on voters.

I never understood why Clinton was tarnished by the imaginary corruption of the DNC. The DNC hacks revealed the normal machinations of a political party. Wow they scheduled debates on Saturday and one time hillary found out about a question in a debate and some people in an office were hating on Bernie in their private communications.  Bernie lost the primaries. He wasn’t robbed. He understood that going into it that the party had a preferred choice and the power through superdelegates to tip the scales for her.

Yes, people finding out the truth about the DNC may have hurt Hillary.  The question is who gave Wikileaks the emails?  There is no evidence it was Russia, but there is evidence (Assange's own statements) that it was not Russia.  You don't have to tell us "DURRR, I like to make believe Assange preferred Trump" again.  Assange hates anyone who is corrupt.

I never understood why Clinton was tarnished by the imaginary corruption of the DNC. The DNC hacks revealed the normal machinations of a political party. Wow they scheduled debates on Saturday and one time hillary found out about a question in a debate.

Some people don't like corruption.  Debbie Wasserman Schultz was even forced to resign as a result.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

To point #1 I'm not sure, nor am I sure how that relates.

It relates more to Enlil, as he's argued that Theresa May blaming Russia for the Skripal poisoning is proof enough, since he could think of a make believe motive (that the Russians wanted him dead).  It's the very lowest level of evidence.

To #2 yes, do you think it's not evidence? Do you think the FBI should have dismissed that as opposed to investigating it? To me even if they think it along with the steel dossier are both fake they should investigate why they were faked.

That's no more than reasonable suspicion.  If we let Enlil derail this with semantics, there may be some definition somewhere where that counts as proof.

I missed this reply yesterday. I agree, but it's evidence that then warrants a "reasonable suspicion" no? It's by no means proof/evidence beyond a reasonable doubt, but that's why you open an investigation. We're talking about the merits for opening an investigation, not for convicting someone of the crime.

It's beyond reasonable suspicion. It's at least probable cause.

In other words, there is always doubt.(?)

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

In matters related to humans,  yes. There is no evidence so strong that all doubt can be removed.

Saw a political toon showing Trump giving Putin the gift of Syria for xmas.  Putin said "How'd you know'.

Truth is Trump said troops (spec ops) can operate from Iraq into syria.  Surely that means air support as well, but not clarified.  The war was less about russia and syria than ISIS.  Even though they or someone tried to turn it into that.
