Exactly. Just disconnect it (isolate the disconnected leads so they won't make a short later on) and check if everything in your home still works - including the doorbell :wink:

The other side is connected to the 120V/240V power. The front side is connected to a doorbell button and a buzzer or bell. The transformer provides power at a reduced voltage to the buzzer. Aside from a very small loss due to acoustical noise and heating, the circuit doesn’t draw any real power from the power company unless the ringer circuit is engaged.

I know this is a little old and you probably already have an answer, but for others wondering, as well as a doorbell, this might power an outside low voltage light like a street number mounted on the wall.
