That might work actually I have done that before. Going to try it out.

You have any links on how you do your bags at all? Or any tips for me?

If I fold the tops, PC them, let it depressure and cool down, then put them infront of hood to inoculate is that good enough? I saw some links where people were using some kind of tyvek filter thing so that any air that gets pulled into the bag is clean, but other people seemed to just fold the tops down until innoculating.

I wanna do straight grain bags for cubes, and then some wood pellet/wheat bran ones for oysters

No links yet.  Just recently started using bags and have only been cultivating for a few months.  Just got some bags in today that I’m going to make up myself.

I’ve been strapped for time lately so it was hard for me to prep and PC grains.  Most of my work is on agar so I had to think of something.  I ended up buying 1 lb bags of rye berries from Shroom Supply with their bag clips not thinking about my fresh saver.  The bag clips are too heavy and they kept falling over.  I’d wipe the bag down really good using 70/30 iso mix and put it in my SAB but my SAB isn’t tall enough to stand the bag up and transfer agar into it.  Finally got to the point where I would do the things mentioned above then once I had my transfer ready I slowly pull the top of the bag out of one of the arm holes in my SAB, open up the bag, grab the transfer and get them in as quickly as possible making sure to avoid hitting the filter..  Then I fold the top of the bag, take it to my vacuum sealer and run it twice.

I’ve done this about 6 times now and haven’t had any contamination issues.  Worth a shot.

So I have ten shoeboxes of non PE cubes.  I decided I'd case with a pasteurized jiffy mix.  Even tho the surface has a slight glisten, they do not want to pin.  They are pinning everywhere but the surface.  They are avoiding the jiffy mix like it's the plague.  WTF?

Not sure what's going on.

Pics are not of the same tub, but all look the same, few different varieties as well.

Your surface conditions are off. The gaps where the substrate has shrunk on the sides is a more humid and ideal environment.

The subs are not shrunk, the mushrooms are pushing the sides of the tote out.  Even the side pinning, won't touch the casing.  All the tubs, the pins are all right at the line of casing.

Haven't seen you around bin a while TBC.  Hope all is well

Not bad. Keeping on keeping is all. But I guarantee your sub shrunk a very small amount. This was enough of a gap to create a microclimate more suitable for pinning than the actual surface. As the mycelium and mushrooms grow in the substrate it breaks it down and consumes nutrients and the water from it. To have that much growth on a substrate and not have any shrinkage is impossible. What you have on the surface is aerial mycelium.

I see. Did you read any fruiting chamber teks? That thing isnt working.

Better pics and time will tell but that looks like blobs/aerial myc cant tell the difference with these pics

Thanks, I followed the unmodified tub tek, I've raised the lid to about 2cm, hopefully that gives it more air!

I had first followed an outdated tek and put holes in the tub, so I plugged the holes when I realised that things are simpler now. I've got a few other tubs that have no holes, I could move it to that one. I probably had the lid gap too low. Super weird blobs, but thanks anyway for the response

The main reason I thought it might have been mutants was I read this thread, the blobs look exactly like what this dude had.

Hey so I have a few plates that the first transfer away from germination. I was looking at them this morning and it seems like they have a "halo" around the mycelium. Is this just finer growth? Or bacteria? Here is an example

This dish only seems to have it on the side that is cottony type growth.

The pictures don't really do it justice but can someone tell me what I'm looking at. Thanks

Thanks Tryp!

Been putting in a LOT of agar work in lately.  Trying different recipes, transfers, sterile technique, etc.  Did like 44 transfers yesterday.  Had 34 plates to start and made another 40 for backup.

Is there a good way to store them?  What if I loaded up syringes and put them in a vacuum seal bag?  Would it suffocate them?

I made way to much but they’re turning out great.  Loaded with thin, stringy cultures.

I'm thinking around T3 or T4 I will inoculate some ME solution in my media bottle. I don't want to scratch it up so I will just shake and pour like G2G. My bottle is .5L so I think 300mL with 3g of ME will do nicely. Pour just a few mL per jar. What do yall think?

Brain Bulb how many transfers deep are them sext plates?

Ok, I need help. I've been floating then cutting my fruits (Bod's tek) and ... well, my cakes become fucking murder scenes of blue stumps. I've tried a scalpel (too small) and a few different knives, but I keep cutting either too high and leaving nasty blue stumps... or I cut too low and end up ripping up the mushroom from the substrate when half through a stalk.

What do ya'll use to cut your shrooms from the substrate? Share your knives that do the job best! (esp. with links to buy them cheaply)

Use a very sharp blade and be very tender, saw them down like little trees. One hand holds them still while the other cuts. Are you floating the sub and sliding it off so you can set it down securely? Do all pf this. If your blades are dull sharpen or replace one. I only just had my first luck cutting fruits. Had minimal bruising but went to drain it from bottom watering and it broke

Aint nothing cheap bout these bad boys.

So, I've used all kinds of knives, but I use my small Global, which is terrifyingly sharp...

But I think I figured out what the difference is! You take the sub/cake out of the bin? I leave it in there, use one hand to hold the substrate in place, the other to cut. If I had the substrate on solid ground I could then easily use one hand to hold the fruits. I just re-read Bod's tek and he recommends leaving the sub in the bin... and I guess I've been nervous about breaking the substrate honestly. Is taking it out how everyone does it?

I'm a twist and puller myself.

Ugh I used some 100% silicone without reading it and realize now there is no temperature limit on it. Still says "Silicone II" on the bottle like the other kind I used that worked fine though, but the few lids I used this on came out of the PC kind of gummy, one filter fell off.

Oh well. Least it was in front of the flow hood then I Covered it up with micropore tape I'll find out whether this flow hood works or not in the next few days lol. Long as the filter is legit everything should be dandy

T5, T6 & T7’s.  One was direct from print but only because the person that sent it to me had done the same thing.  I also swabbed some plates just in case it isn’t clean..

@Mushboy here are some pics:

This is from my T5 Caerulescens clone:

Don’t have pics of the others right now.
