What kind of LC do you make/use??
I made some malt extract LC recently and after I PC'ed it had a ton of sediment and weird brown chunks in it, even though I filtered most sediment and it was very light with little sediment before PC. Maybe it was too long of a PC cycle, I put it in with some grain jars

Yeah definitely don't overdo the pc cycle with lc and especially malt extract lc. I get little chunks of what looks like burnt sediment in some jars but very few usually only like one small chunk and invisible unless you have your eye upto the jar. I have overcooked before once or twice and experienced a very dark color liquid and much heavier burnt sediment
I use 1g Light malt extract per 500ml cold tap water. stir well until there are no chunks. I use a pot to mix the water and malt extract then use a pitcher to pour into jars. You can just mix it directly in the jar but I find it much easier this way. I put about 400 per qt jar leaving room for swirling and pc with unfiltered plastic or metal lids for 30 min at 15psi.
One thing that helped me with lc in a big way recently was changing from LI or large wedges for inoculation to just a tiny sliver of of a wedge. This creates a nice small but strong liquid colony that grows evenly and doesn't stall as my other methods would often. It seems like when tons of colonies start in the liquid all at once things get too cramped or starved for air/room/nutrition or something. Idk that's just what I've seen and the only conclusion I can come up with.

I recently switched to grain soak water for my LC. Decant and filtered before being put in to measured out trays( ice cube, popsicle trays, etc) anything bto create a standard. First few jars will tell you if it's to strong or weak, adjust accordingly.
I get almost no sediment, and I add .5% of a sugar containing additive. Dextrose powder, real maple syrup, mea, etc. Much better then my MEA LC

Hey thanks for the tips
Do you filter it with a coffee filter before putting in jars? Or leave it as is

I have been experimenting with grain water LC too, I have a couple really nice ones going, and I am about to knock up some jars to test it out.
One I tried filtering the sediment, the other one wherre I didn't, the mycelium ended up consuming most of the sediment/little chunks.
Just did 21 quarts in the PC yesterday. Going to cook some oats and do another 7-14 quarts tonight and 7 in the morning. I've bought 72/144 quart jars I plan on getting. I also plan to buy plastic lids for them all but damn, the lids are pricey when you think that they are almost as expensive as a jar per lid!!

No filter for light malt extract. it is dissolved completely before and after pc so no need. only the rare sediment as I discussed before and I don't think filtering will solve that as I think it it just burnt sugars from the malt in the liquid.

I may be trying grain flour lcs and brf lc soon again as I had some pretty good results with them. for now I like that I can see the growth well and am comfortable with it
idk about grain soak water lcs but I may give that a try as well. seems like I'll be making a lot of lc instead of a copeous amount of cakes and blender bottles.

Nice man you're killing it on the rusty whytes. My first quart jar is so close to being done I can't wait to spawn this thing...
So I finished my flowhood, put the last bit of silicone on last night. Then I fired up my blower/fan and sure enough I'm thinking oh fuck this fan isn't strong enough.
I forgot the fan had a speed dial. It was on low.
Houston we do not have a problem

Nice!!! There was someone a couple days ago talking about how its important not to crank it up... essentially there is a max flow a filter can handle. just FYI

I went with a centrifugal fan. At first people suggested not to use it but I found several builds of people using one. At it's highest speed it's just about perfect for scrubbing the air in the room, but not too strong. Then maybe 3/4 full speed for working in front of.
Picture of it. All said and done I easily put $500-$600 into this thing.

Finally, fully complete. Took a while. Still need to add the side handles. Also it's too heavy for me to carry alone so I'm just gonna use it on the kitchen table tonight. Don't plan on keeping it there

Go to Amazon, pick up an anemometer. Meause your flow. Got mine for 25bucks, blocked the intake untill I got it down to 125, I check it periodically.
What's another 25 on a 500$+ project.

Mine was a little over $300... Not sure where you spent the extra money. And while mine is also too heavy to carry alone, theres no fucking way I would have let my wife try to help.

Filter in Canada was $300 plus shipping
Centrifugal fan was $135, add 3/4" plywood, prefilter, screws and other shit and yeah it came to like $500 or more easy.
I think it will be a worthwhile investment though. Working in an SAB all the time sucks
edit: oh yeah I went through 2 big tubes of silicone too making that shit 100% air tight

elme lc should look like this once pced actually this is "golden" light so extra light would be even less yellow.

Here is a small wedge a couple days in maybe 3. This is about when I start swirling once everyday or two.

and about couple weeks in
and fully colonized and thick 3 weeks in:

and now I can see some sediment in these jars from these pics more than I realized in person. Not sure where that comes from?
