PF Cakes -> Monotub

Hi everyone,
I was hoping for some help.
I started a GT grow with the PF tek and am currently waiting for 11 1/2 pint jars to colonize. I'm now thinking of grating the cakes up and going the monotub route when theyre ready. I was just notified that I have to be away every few days in the coming months, so misting/fanning will not be possible.
I'm thinking of using damions 50/50 for the substrate, just wondering what monotub tek you recommend I use for this? I have a 66 QT clear Sterilite tub I was hoping to use and I am planning on purchasing a PC in the next couple days, I would sincerely appreciate any help.

No need for a pc. Do a coir tek. Spawn at 1 to 1 ratio. Or atleast close to it. Monotubs rock. 66qt might be too big tho. Ull have a thin substrate. Unless u do it in smaller trays and put tge trays in the monotub.

Check out the BRF to bulk thread (link in my sig) there you'll find everything you need to know about spawning cakes.unmodofied tubs are popular for this method

Here's what i would do.
You've got 11 cakes so one will be light.
Get yourself 3 shoeboxes
I usually do 4 cakes and a quart of coir using bods bucket tek. You can add in verm and gypsum if you want or just follow the bucket tek if it's your first time.
Use a coarse cheese grater so you're not standing there like a d-weed for hours and hours. Remember 4 cakes and a quart of sub per shoebox. Do it the day before you leave if toy can do you can leave the lid on to hold in some moisture those days. Come home and put it in fruiting conditions.
Also i don't know about your sterile technique, but put it to use wherever you're working.
Good luck!

Thank you!
So I now own a 23Q Pressure Cooker, and I have coir/verm, but no bucket. Is it possible to use the PC to prepare the substrate, or should I go out and get a bucket to do it?

I use a Gatorade drink cooler. You can just buy a small/ medium size cooler that seals up really well.
The bucket doesn't hold heat well. Follow bods tek

I've done bucket tek in my PC. Works fine. Get some water boiling, drop the brick in and seal it up. Just don't keep the heat running for hours, LOL.

While waiting for the 11 jars to fully colonize, it turns out a couple jars in the back have grown a couple ~3" mushrooms! Should I pick these off before grating the BRF cakes to mix with the substrate?
I have over 3 quarts of coir substrate cooling off from Bod's bucket tek at the moment.
I'm planning on filling the 3 shoeboxes/dubtubs late tomorrow, but it turns out I have to be away from the grow for 7-10 days the day after I fill the shoeboxes. Is that sufficient time for the mix to colonize before initiating fruiting?

That's the guide that turned me away from brf to bulk. It's all over the place.

Yeah, I appreciate all their efforts, but the info seems to be scattered throughout a pretty long thread.

Results prove otherwise. Cakes as spawn works well. 350 grams wet across 2 tubs, first flush.

That's not exactly true though is it, you need a PC to sterilise grains properly, or you'd have to boil them for like 12 hours at 0psi

The first post contains instructions on how to crumble and fruit cakes to coir in 6 quart shoeboxes. The directions are pretty straightforward.

I think that spawning cakes can be a nice first try at buk for a cake grower who doesn't feel just yet comfortable enough to switch to grains. I think it's a nice tek that teaches you a lil about what spawning is

Always have had better results putting cakes to coir than fruiting em in a SGFC. Less hassle, more mushies and hard to mess up a shoebox, set n forget. Overall I prefer grains, less colonization time, cheaper than BRF, less prep, mess but there is something fun about colonizing a couple cakes then chopping em up and doing mini grows.
