Here is an article about it.

TL;DR — **surprise!** people who think they are being gang stalked generally have some sort of mental health issue.

The Nightmarish Online World of 'Gang-Stalking'

The internet creates an echo chamber for delusions and conspiracies.

Quote:
It starts with a question. "Am I going mad, or....?"

In "gang-stalking," everything seems connected, and inconsequential details acquire new purpose. That person who crossed your path earlier. That siren outside your window. That chair in the kitchen—is it where it was before? Has someone been in your house, moving things around? Are there microchips under your skin?

A vast online community has formed over the last decade around a belief in gang-stalking, with "targeted individuals" sharing stories of mobs of stalkers, mind games, thought control, and extreme surveillance being used to destroy their lives.

Most often kept to the febrile fringes of the conspiracy web, gang-stalking appeared in mainstream news this week in reference to the Baton Rouge shooter Gavin Long, a former marine who killed three police officers and injured three others before being shot dead.

Media outlets pieced together Long's online presence as "Freedom Strategist" and "Mental Game Coach" Cosmo Setepenra, the pseudonym he used to create a series of e-books, YouTube videos, and a Twitter feed. Reports also connected Long to posts on a page titled "Stop Organised Gang Stalking," where a user named cosmo717 was presumed to be Long.

Gang-stalking victims describe "complex systems" financed by the US government, employing "civilian volunteers, government agents, contractors, and often dangerous ex-convict felons" to harass people. Gang-stalking functions as a nexus for further conspiracy. Search online and you will find its infinite varieties: "psychotronic torture," where sufferers believe they have been unwittingly implanted with "brain transmitters" which eavesdrop on their thoughts, conspirant family members who double as "perps," Morgellons Disease, the controversial "fibers under the skin" condition… the list continues.

Dr David Crepaz-Keay of the UK's Mental Health Foundation said he had encountered patients who fit this profile. "I can easily see how a combination of behaviours (individual and public) can create a plausible impression of gang-stalking," he said.

Gang-stalking fears act as a trap: The believer behaves warily in public, and people respond to this by treating them as unusual. Crepaz-Keay explained, "This behaviour reinforces the anxiety and sparks paranoia, which increases the physical and verbal reaction which in turn increase the intensity of public response. So although there is not a concerted stalking activity, it is very easy to interpret real-world behaviour as if it is co-ordinated."

A report in the New York Times last month described gang-stalking as a community "conservatively estimated to exceed 10,000 members," dispersed across blogs, forums, Facebook groups, and YouTube. Complaints of gang-stalking run from mild nuisance to severe trauma and self-harm. Posts describe sufferers going on the run, becoming homeless, and severing contact with friends and family.

The conspiracy has evolved a densely populated online world, one where confirmation bias is king, but where sufferers can accept and support each other. They publish manifestos. They make their own (troubling, unfunny) memes. They advocate use of "orgone tools" and "etheric resistance" against the "diabolical scum bags" who torment them.

Inevitably, an e-book industry has also sprung up around gang-stalking, offering guides on "How to Deal with and Defeat Gang Stalkers" ("They attempted to stop her from publishing this book by deleting it from her computer and causing formatting problems with ALL previous editions. Multiple perpetrators are involved suspected and unsuspected") and works of fiction.

A recurrent theme in gang-stalking communities is a distrust of mental health professionals.

There is only one research paper specifically on the topic, written by forensic psychologists Lorraine Sheridan and David V James and titled "Complaints of group-stalking ('gang-stalking'): an exploratory study of their nature and impact on complainants." It was published in 2015 in The Journal of Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology. The tags attached to the paper are telling: "stalking," "group-stalking," "victims," "delusions," and "post-traumatic disorders."

In the study, 1,040 self-defined victims of stalking filled out an anonymous questionnaire on a website offering advice and support. One hundred and twenty-eight of the respondents reported group-stalking. Their complaints were a vivid cross-section of gang-stalking allegations, including reports of "teams of men in black vans," "everyone in the street being 'plants' acting out roles towards the victim," "'more than a thousand' people being involved,""use of 'voice to skull' messages," "witchcraft focussed through gold objects," "organised electronic mind interference," and (categorized by the researchers under "bizarre") "docile family dog replaced by exact double with foul temper" and "remote enlargement of bodily organs."

I spoke to one of the paper's authors, Dr Lorraine Sheridan, by email. "It's difficult to say how widespread the problem is but it's certainly not uncommon," she said.

The study's results were not surprising: Among the gang-stalked, all were found to likely be suffering from delusions and rated more highly for symptoms of depression, trauma, and adverse impact on social functioning. They reported feelings of going mad, depression, fear, distrust, and suicidal ideation. Their relationships broke down, they had lost jobs, and some had decided to carry a weapon. Victims were unable to identify their stalkers by name. The majority of them, curiously, were women. Overwhelmingly, they said they would not go to the police for fear of being ignored.

The damage caused by delusions of gang-stalking is progressive, until it consumes every moment of a sufferer's life. Some become jobless and homeless, though others are just about able to continue functioning as before. "In these cases, friends and family of the individual often suffer the most," said Sheridan. "Some people even profit from their beliefs, making lots of new friends and contacts via the internet and becoming campaigners/speakers/writers focused on educating people about gang-stalking."

Since the study's publication, mental health professionals have contacted Sheridan to comment on how hard gang-stalking beliefs are to eradicate in their patients. Members of the community have sent threats and accused her of being paid by the government (for the record, Sheridan says nobody paid her to produce the study).

Sheridan believes that the idea of gang-stalking has always existed as a delusion, but that the internet has helped it to grow. "The internet creates a sort of 'closed ideology echo chamber' wherein people who share unusual beliefs reinforce each other's thinking. There is no counter-argument within these groups, they are like minds," she said.

On the Gang Stalking Wiki, Sheridan's study is listed as "Kooky Stuff," and dismissed as deliberately misleading ("The readability is very low. You're not supposed to understand it."). Creating their own media is key to the gang-stalked cause, as mainstream outlets invariably dismiss them. Members of the community even claim that Wikipedia is against them: the author of the Gang Stalking Wiki claims that their article is heavily guarded as part of a plot to influence search results.

One of the conclusions Sheridan arrives at in her study is that "the manner in which these subjective phenomena are interpreted by those who experience them is coloured by the social and political preoccupations of the age." This is apparent in how gang-stalking blogs mention films—A Scanner Darkly and, predictably, The Matrix feature often (the gang-stalking subreddit even uses its signature green-text-on-black-background print), as do Cronenberg's videogame-as-reality film eXistenz and Videodrome, in which a snuff film channel corrupts its viewers' minds.

Much as in Videodrome, gang-stalking also borders on a fear of technology itself. Some sites conflate trolls, catfish, and scammers with paid "counterintelligence agents." The instructions for combatting them are no different to basic online security: don't friend strangers and check the profiles of random requests. Gang-stalking victims who believe they have been microchipped or targeted with "electromagnetic torture" take this further, assuming a direct link between technology, the mind and the body, and fearing the contamination of all three.

The jargon the gang-stalking community employs is almost combative, implying a desire for order and control. It's worth considering that the gang-stalking community is struggling to adapt to exponential change and acceleration; that theirs is an exaggeration of our own discomfort with real things, like surveillance.

Sheridan agreed. "Technology develops rapidly and it's pretty normal to distrust something we don't understand," she said. Combined with gang-stalking beliefs, this distrust can evolve into paranoia: "This is a pretty obvious link as technology is everywhere and it can genuinely be used to monitor, surveil, and ultimately abuse people. "

Long is thought to be the third mass shooter to consider himself a "targeted individual", alongside Myron May, who killed three people at Florida State University in 2014, and Aaron Alexis, who killed 12 at the Washington Navy Yard in 2013 and who, like Long, had contacted anti-stalking association PACTS International (People Against Covert Torture and Surveillance).

But most sufferers lead relatively uneventful lives, the only difference between them and the average person being that they believe that guy at the garage is an agent of COINTELPRO.

The gang-stalking community is not unlike mainstream social media, in that it trades upon mutual flattery. Gang-stalking victims document everyday life, and search for validation online. They mutually encourage each other to believe that they are not ordinary, but somehow worthy of being stalked, the stars of their own Truman Show.

"Mimicking," as a gang-stalking claim, is especially poignant in this regard: The sufferer believes that strangers are dressing and behaving like them on purpose, in a bid to drive them insane. The thought rarely occurs that this is a coincidence—that they happen to be just like everyone else.

I find it odd why are you so passionate about this topic.  someone who has no involvement would be indifferent, yet you are not only adamant but very quick to judge people you don't know as crazy.  why is this?

Did you know this going into your trip? If so, having cults on your mind going into your trip probably didn't help your situation.

If you were thinking about cults going into your trip, it's not super surprising that you experienced paranoia/fear when you started to feel vulnerable/overwhelmed from the inebriation.

Idk does anyone have any insight on this besides me being a silly girl?

Definitely don't feel silly, these drugs are insanely powerful.

The acid+mushrooms combo can easily put you in the "twilight zone" (or whatever you want to call it) where things start to get freaky.

If you haven't experienced a mind fuck like that before it can definitely be disturbing.

I have been there. I do think that there are selective people who try to "fuck with" others. Not sure what their intention is.

I always experience lots of, what I call, thought planting. People around you, working in a team, saying things outloud that you can apply to yourself - if you so choose.

Could be a very elaborate delusion, but honestly, I have been to enough shows that I think there is some accuracy to your post.

I love the music to let this shit fuck with me, so I just follow my heart, and try to do the right thing (whatever that is!)

I've been taking psychedelics at festivals and shows all over the US for decades, including burning man and similar events.

Why has this phenomenon never happened to me?

Who are these people that are regularly fucking with you?

No offense, but why would anyone care about you enough to try to mess with you in particular?

Is there something special about you or something?

The very idea that people care enough about you to do such a thing sounds like a delusion of grandeur to me.

It seems incredibly unlikely to me that organized groups of people are messing with you on a regular basis, but I suppose crazier things have happened...

I'm nothing special, I just listen. That's all. I have considered that I may be personalizing the comments, but it has happened so many times and to such a degree that I just accept it.

Also, I wouldn't go as far as saying my experience is "gang-stalking" - just other people dropping wisdom, feedback or direction. I don't experience that at home.

I think it would be foolish to label anything in this area either one thing or another thing for sure.  I think It's better to call it an unknown and ignore it when you come across it.  No harm, no foul.

If you get convinced your schizophrenic then you will probably take meds that won't do you any good but if you constantly search for the answers you'll just be a fish on a hook like they would (hypothetically) want you to be...there is no escaping THAT reality for those who experience it anyways so my personal theory is that by ignoring it you won't give it any power over you.

Don't have any fear or frusteration dealing with these things whenever and however you do and you won't have to take meds OR go down the wrong path following these shadows.  You're better than that.  You Don't need those meds in your life or that battle...the best way to beat it is to let it beat itself and see it's own truth...no response needed, just a heroic stillness and faith in one's self and one's soul and the Great Spirit.  "They" are only temporary and serve as a distraction to you in this life.

I've dealt with it a lot and went down the wrong path...wanted to help those people by crazy, possibly dangerous means.  Lost a lot of time and resources in the process but once I figured it out and began to ignore it I had to start working on myself and dealing with it LIKE IT WASN'T EVEN REAL.

You Don't owe those beings anything and you can label the whole phenomena whatever you want but no need to label it anything but a phenomena that you personally experience but simply Don't understand.  YOU DON'T NEED TO FIGURE IT OUT.  It can reveal itself to you or it may always hide but it doesn't want to be exposed so regardless of how it may treat you just leave it where it lies.

I struggled with the idea of getting medication because in my head I had begun labeling it schizophrenia but I never did get medication and I Don't need to.  If I had then I would just be another statistic showing gang stalking is highly related to mental disease, which it is, but that doesn't mean it is either mental disease or it is not.  It could be both and I have a feeling that it is.  The same is true to the drug-induced hypothesis.  Trust in the Great Spirit to guide you always.  Never forget that!  We are returning home.  The mind is a doorway and through it chemicals and electronics do a mystical dance and not all is as it may seem but we are blessed with being able to see much of how things are but we should not overestimate our ability to do that.  Keep things simple and use folk wisdom, spiritual wisdom, and very, very simple love to move forward and let's go home together.

In that segment and another vice piece meeting and hearing tis out. And one guy said he was being remote controlled, could hear people's thoughts and he thought MI6 took a shit in his bed. Just because many people experience it doesn't mean it's not mental illness, it is. I have a vested interest because generally I like studying psychology and psychiatry. Other " targeted individuals" would emaciate themselves in storage lockers going from locker to locker because they think beams are being directed at them wherever they go when I did more extensive research including these TIs.

Once those people believe that they aren't going to want to ever brush the whole thing off as JUST schizophrenia because in their head, and perhaps in reality, that would be simply being untruthful with themselves.

You got to work with a patient on a patient to patient basis so much so that you have to remain open to their ideas or they will never be open to your ideas.

It's really hard to get a person to wrap their mind around the fact that THEIR OWN MIND has been playing a massive trick on them for years.  Hallucinations will seem consistent with one another and usually begin rather unextrordinarily proceeding more and more so: simply revealing a part of reality that is secretive/hidden - not neccesarily that fantastical relative to the agreed upon reality of Earth and the Universe (speaking of the Targeted Individuals and myself).  The delusions are just beliefs developed through these experiences and the emotional problems can also be a result of simply living through these experiences.  A person who isn't hurting anyone else and is able to survive may not have ever had a brain disease to begin with (or perhaps they did but It's origin was manmade) but maybe they did but they have experienced things that are kept well hidden from most of us or maybe they just simply have a disease...

...in other words they fit the criteria but not everyone who fits the criteria for a disease is going to have that disease when we Don't even know what the origin of that disease actually is.

Mental diseases have a very blurry line.  Our experiences cause our mental disorders and our mental disorders cause our experiences.  Mental disorders can disappear instantly sometimes and reappear and changes in the patient's own personal life can heal them or cause new issues.

It is a schizophrenic's own personal experiences that change their beliefs, emotions, ways of living their life, and even the way their brain works and (often) doesn't work.  You can't help the patient get better unless they can change their experiences but you can't convince many of them that those experiences are completely not real because many of them KNOW on a deep, subconscious level that they are real AT LEAST IN PART.  They are already struggling to face reality BEFORE all their hallucinations get added in so why make it even harder for them by simply insisting that these things are completely unreal? (they would LOVE to believe that, trust me, so just work with them on it more before you throw it their face, I'll explain more in the last paragraph of this post).  You are not getting anywhere with them you are arguing over wether certain things really happened or not rather than helping them deal with those things...because they have to be HONEST with you for them to heal so they need to MOVE PAST these hallucinations rather then LABEL them.

To a schizophrenic these experiences are completely BEYOND labeling and the idea of labeling something as REAL or UNREAL is COMPLETELY ABSURD and only adds to the hardship of attempting to act logically within reality.

I'm speaking from personal experiences here as someone who has healed A LOT.  As long as I maintained the labels that I had placed on the experiences that I had I could not expell these experiences from my head.  If I labeled them "Schizophrenic" or "unreal" this would only lead to more of them OCCURING...

...I no longer believed that the voices in my head were real at all in any way except as symptoms of schizophrenia but that didn't make them stop.  IT WAS A GREAT STARTING POINT but it didn't make them go away.

It was only when I ACCEPTED the possibility that they could have any origin that I could FULLY integrate those experiences into my life.

Schizophrenics need a way to deal with their OWN hallucinations and to help them accomplish that it takes a lot more than a simple diagnosis and a pill: unless they come knocking on your door asking for it that is.

A good place to start for someone, like the lady who ran from locker to locker trying to get away from the "beams" she always felt attacking her, would be to teach her ways of being calm, confident, and strong BECAUSE SHE IS EXPERIENCING FREAKING BEAMS SHOOTING INTO HER FLIPPIN BODY AND BRAIN ALMOST NONSTOP.  Lol.

How does a person deal with those situations they are experiencing?  Guess what what, that question only gets easier to answer when all these people experience SIMILIAR situations instead of extremely different ones (these targeted individuals).  Those are still the experiences that they are experiencing rather any of it ever really happens or not at least It's all pretty similar so helping those individuals deal with that reality could, in some ways, also become easier.

Now, to be honest, I do think they are going about dealing with it the wrong way.  By paying attention to it.  I've heard of some therapies where a schizophrenic is encouraged to talk to the voices in their head or some therapies where these voices are explored as possibly being subconscious aspects of the person.  Those methods are probably not going to help in my oppinion when it comes to TI's.  I've tried talking with the voices in my head when I considered myself a targeted individual but that was only fueling that reality.  The targeted individuals are trying to expose a plot as a way of directly dealing with that plot but it appears they are failing miserably and falling flat on their face because they came, originally, from the general public themselves and as the general public we uduslly have absolutely no clue what we are getting ourselves into when we first find a large plot to expose.  You can't do anything publicly in this regard because you expose yourself to those very plotters you want to somehow beat...

A lot of people think we can somehow get everyone to wake up by just exsposing enough corruption but even in France right now there are thousands and thousands of protesters and what can they even get done?  (I do have hope for them though I feel like it may only get more ugly).

You can expose the truth but in my opinion each of us needs to simply LIVE the truth.

I think a good way thing to do for these types of people who struggle with these experiences is to tell them honestly what your BELIEFS are on the matter and why (tell them from the heart, not the book or brain) and then also you could suggest that they treat these things AS IF they were completely UNREAL when they happen and see if that helps (like I said, it was a good place for me to start)...like completely ignore them and Don't even think about them.  Explain where the road leads of they continue to delve into them and that it may be better to try and simply stay away from them both in body and in mind.  (This is what I've been trying to get to, sorry, long ramble).

Maybe these voices really have no business being in our heads and we should simply ignore them till they disappear?  That's my take on it.

Man I seen people get fucked with in different internet venues they say something stupid someone doesn't like then they get targeted and harassed, families called, doxxed, swatted, defamed, and ddossed.

I could see people targeting people at festivals if they think they have money to take.

I was at a small reggae fest and the last DJ of the night said the state I was from then started saying " (state name)we got what you want, you got what we want, drugs money guns".  I was the only out of state car there.  I asked the guys next to me for a rolling paper.  They said no.  The DJ then says (state name)we got what you want, you got what we want, drugs money guns"repeatedly and I think the people next to me saw my expression.  I saw the one nudge the other and look at me and say "yeah thats the one we wanna rob".  I backed out and left the tent and stepped into the dark and watched the two come out behind me walk out down the trail.  Glad I stepped off into the dark before they followed.  I then went the other way and got to my car and left at 4am. They assumed I was there to find connects and get green in the emerald triangle though I was just there for some music since I was in the area.

Is that gang stalking?  I don't know.  It felt like I was singled out and targeted.

Re: GANG STALKING at Festivals [Re: Deadp1xel]
    #25670026 -

I had a weird experience like this at a small festival earlier this year. Just a lot of little odd coincidences that began to freak me out. Ended up leaving early

I know it was mostly in my head but it just freaked me out too much. I was with my girlfriend at the time who looks a lot younger than me. I was paranoid that other festival goers would see me and her together and get the wrong impression of me. Eventually I was convinced that people were surreptitiously taking my picture to put in some database about weirdos/creeps at festivals. I had a lot of relationship issues and I'm sure that was just the thing, but it screwed with my head. I became so nervous and paranoid I wasn't able to enjoy myself or be affectionate to my girlfriend.

There were other weird things as well. This one guy looked at me multiple times during the festival and said "Hail Satan!" and had generally satanic clothing (like a hat that said Satan Rules or something, looked normal otherwise). I just had an eerie feeling.

At one point the second night I was tripping hard and my gf and I went to my car to cool down/relax. Parking was separate from camping here so most people weren't in the parking lot. It was so weird because people kept walking by my car/around us. I was convinced we were being watched.

Also that night I became paranoid that I was going to have a heart attack. Went to the medical tent and my heart rate was like 200bpm (only took acid and weed, no coke or other stimulants) and I was hypertensive. The medical tent was basically a chair and table with a first aid person. Barely any equipment, no ambulance or way to get someone to a hospital. It freaked me out, if I had been in an actual medical emergency I might've died.

When I was in my tent and would try to be intimate with my gf I would hear all sorts of people outside the tent cheering and stuff and when I stopped they would get quiet. It was seriously weird. I know probably just an auditory hallucination but it was so odd.

In hindsight, while I don't think I was gang stalked, I think it's possible. A festival seems like the perfect environment to fuck with someone and drive them crazy. Because if you were actually doing it, everyone would just tell the gangstalked person they are crazy and paranoid due to drugs. People have been killed at festivals before. Usually over drug debts but it has happened. I would not be surprised in the least if some festivals had undercover agents or if certain individuals were targeted at fests (especially if they had valuable info or were high up in a company etc)

I know I'm probably not making much sense, but I don't think the whole idea is as crazy as some think it is

Pretty crazy how people who take hallucinogens at festivals are so prone to being gangstalked.
