Your fuzzy growth is bacteria laden, it's super puffy, super weak looking and the color isn't uniform/ brighter patches extending from the center out/downward... it's a sick plate
Apart from the one sector of rhizomorphic growth, Bod's plate is uniform in shape, and structure, and color... the leading edge doesn't run clear in spots, and forms roughly a perfect circle... I'm colorblind, but yours looks grey, not white... could even be some mold present... it's not malicious intent, just trying to help... did you make transfer yet? It's likely a lost cause IMO...

Ya could save the plate.
Search 'josex biopsy' and realise how small your transfer can be, and how you can escape contams by making tiny transfers.
Stab the very end of 9 o'clock, and away you go.

This kind of analysis/clarity needs to be posted in more agar teks IMO. Took me lots and lots of analyzing and studying plates to understand what to look for.

Plate 1 is a little questionable, but it could just be tomentose growth making me concerned. I would definitely transfer all of them, sectors being... Plate 1: 2-3 o'clock plate 2: 3 o'clock plate 3: 5-6 o'clock
Basically I'm picking that nice more rhizo growth that's out growing everything else.

I agree 100% with that assessment... plate one? Ehhh, definitely something going on at 7... i would take transfers once the culture is half this size though, and continue doing that until it starts to look good from start... usually 2-3 quick, well chosen transfers is good from spore/tissue plates... if contamination is allowed to grow too much, you'll never get rid of it

maybe nit picky, but i'm not always on that dime size transfer thing, mostly just for germination plates would i take that soon. I like letting them go to half or 3/4 plate coverage to see what sectors develop and/or outrun possible bacteria/yeast spots close to the wedge. Probably more of a preference/situational thing, than a best practice.

nope, or yup? i'm not sure which is correct. For me t1's and on typically go to half or 3/4 grown as long as the plate doesn't get a weird satellite mold or something else that can spread fast as myc.

Anyone care to chime in with their 2p on this? I know what you're going to say (caps I'm looking at you) but this has happened to every transfer I've done since the 16th. I'm talking 3 or 4 varieties of cube, gymnopilus, caerulescens and ps semi. On 2 different types of agar wbs and mea done on different days so I'm a bit wtf

Ohhh fuck. Know what, it might not be on the plates I thought it was. You might be right. It might be both.

Looks like a T2 Plate to me: I'd grab transfers now personally: 3 o'clock from the left one, and either (or both) 7-8 o'clock or 10-11 o'clock in the right plate

i make yogurt using a heating pad on a simple temp controller inside a large cooler. same could work for gently warming cultures. just ensure plenty of room between the heating pad and whatever tray the cultures are sitting on. you want convective heating, not conductive heating. and if the garage is too cold, wrapping the cooler in blankets or something would be good. all this said, temp swings will likely earn you condensation inside the plates.

T2 transfer of wild Reishi. It grows extremely fast compared to all the other transfers I did on the same date.
Should I take another transfer? Or is this ready for grain?
Also if I move to grain, does it need to grow out more? And if so, how much agar from a plate should I drop into the grain?

Poured 5 plates today then put the left over in the fridge. And will do transfers early, only time will tell on my technique
I also used hot water and a whiskey tumblr to get rid of condensation which was cool to not see on my plates.
Edit. Checked on them and the top 2 steamed back up heating them back up a little with sink warm water see what that does.
