Yeah allot of people do. I'll go up 2% nutes when doing spores to agar. Some people may go higher.

Did some searching but couldn't find anything on whether diastatic malt powder is acceptable for MEA? (Have a bag leftover from baking)

Ingredients are Malt powder, Wheat powder and Dextrose

I would imagine the starch converting quality's from diastatic malt would only matter In a potato broth or PDA?

Are you trying to geminate a print or syringe?

Out of curiosity, anyone here ever tried using beet juice to dye their agar plates?

I'm going to give it a shot next round.

Nothing came up on a quick search though.

Most of my food coloring gets consumed pretty quickly so I wonder if it would be more persistent.

I know it's not necessary to agar work, but I enjoy the colors.

I like the colors too lol. It beats looking at that ugly yellowish brown of uncolored agar. When I came back and saw all the bright colored agar everyone was using I was like :Awemazing: Wow, Im in the future lmao

Awesome! check out the official pan thread if you havent yet for some input on where to transfer from. They seem to prefer a certain type of growth to avoid overlay

Thin and wispy, no super puffy myc.

You’ll see as it grows out, some of my germ plate myc is pushed up against the lid it’s so puffy.

You want some similar to this, minus the rampant bacteria.

I think my favorite part of pans is how fast they are. It’s like growing cubes on fast forward. So odd spawning a tray and coming back the next day to a totally colonized surface.

thanks, yes I’ve been reading a lot and i can actually already see some of what i believe is the right type of growth (thin, wispy and kinda sprawling) but it’s very small and i’d like to see what happens over the next couple days. Yeah the growth seems crazy fast compared to cubes this is my 2nd go around with Pans so im learning ✌️

It would probably work, but it's probably going to have a lot of sediment.

Yeah that's why I figure I'm going to run it through a coffee filter before adding the agar.

I might just try using water from boiling beets as the nutes and the color.

worst thing that could happen is it doesn't work

Best case I get to boil my beets and eat them too.

Just getting my clean space and hood set back up. Was planning on pulling a print out, then I found these 2 plates from a clone from last october in my fridge...

They both look pretty clean, but they've grown out way farther that what I'd want to use for a typical transfer. Any recommendations on trying to get a transfer and grow this line back out, or just need to wait for them to pin maybe?
