Glad and saran are just brand names but the chemical constituents of the plastic are the same. Cling wraps allows for the permeability of oxygen and moisture.

I do actually use glad, I'm just used to calling all cling wrap "saran wrap"

I just ordered my 1st roll of parafilm
I had been using cling wrap, but having trouble cutting it nicely and the edges make the wrap tear every 1/2 "wrap" if I don't carefully help it unravel

Ah, well if you have a very sharp straight edged knife it's super easy to cut. I don't use parafilm anymore because it tends to crack. Cling wrap goes on tight and clear, nice and neat.

Water in the plate will be an issue, try turning upside down and see if you can pour it out before you inoculate. If agar doesn't seem to work try a BRF plate. You may have to search the link. I think I seen it on this thread a few days ago. BRF plate will help though

Just cut them up.
As Camera noticed, you can sometimes burr the edge and cause it to tear/rip every time it passes that burr, but, as p9 said, if you use a sharp blade, that usually doesn't happen.

Cutting cling into smaller rolls is the best. I didn’t do it for a while cuz I thought it would be too hard but I just use a fresh blade in a box cutter and it’s no problem. There’s a bit of technique to it but you’ll find a way pretty quick.

For the person a page back asking about blue around the transfer, it’s usually just myc that grew upward and is drying out now.

hell yes ; saran wrap ftw

you gotta get a sharp cutter blade and cut the rough edges so it can roll out easily , once it starts to get stuck and not roll out , cut some more the edges and perfect

Parafilm is THE SHIT but for cost-effectiveness, Glad Wrap cannot be beat. I want to use parafilm, but i simply cannot justify the cost when Glad works just as well. Two wrap-arounds with Glad, and it's protected enough that i'll play disc golf with my plates and they're still clean :laugh2:

If you are taking several transfers from the same plate, do you still need to flame sterilize the blade in between each time?

9 , but the agar formula i was using was not working properly , it started looking like this until now that i changed the formula to LME low nutes

Does anyone have a clue what these little spots are? I wanted to take a some transfers from this growth and saw this. They look like three tiny tiny droplets, but this glass is condensation free with none at the top either, so nothing could of fell... They’re placed almost exactly in a triangle around the growth. It’s at the 1,4, and 9 o’clock positions. Answers or ideas?

This is where you wanna just take a few transfers from clean areas to new plates to get away from anything else besides clean growth.

The perfect pattern has me stumped:shrug: Should still be good to make transfers from though. Take some transfers, keep the plate and see if it grows. Reminds me of water drops though.
