So I got to figure out how to make my plates more even and not at a slant. Any tips?

What do you mean? Like your agar drying at an angle in your pressure cooker?

Pour them on a flat table that is not slanted/angled and let them set. Get a level and see if your table is even

Going to be doing some slants for the first time. Got a few Mazatapec cultures I'm going to save, wish me luck.

I'm doing no pours. I guess I can pull them out after the pressure releases and go that route.

Stoves have levelers, like screw legs, unless they're tightened properly they spin when you pull out the oven, sounds like that's the issue.

Sooooooo..... SLANTS! Hi guys! I bought these for an art project a while back and have ... oh about 55 of these left: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073M2LKPM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
*(no, i would not use the corks)* So, I'm wondering what your thoughts are on an idea for long term agar storage. Would I be able to sterilize the glass bottles in my PC then drop agar wedges in them, then "cap" them with micropore tape? Should I actually make slants for them (pour agar) or will just dropping wedges be enough?

Corks will work: just can't press them completely in until after PC cycle, and gotta be careful not to knock them off when working with them

Those are tiny with narrow necks, it'll be difficult to get stuff in and out I'd imagine. These look easier and are made to be autoclaved. They make different sizes and cheap racks too.

Really? I figured they couldn't be sterilized! How long would you PC them for?

Thanks! I guess I was just hoping to use them for SOMETHING since they're sitting around already. And they're small, but they were bigger than I wanted them to be (hence having so many left). When I cut a section of agar to transfer it to another plate, I could easily fit into the mouth of these.

Do you think I should put fresh agar in these too, or just drop in agar wedges?

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking: slants are cooled at an angle (slanted) with new agar, then a wedge is transferred as if to a new plate...the increased volume and decreased surface area of the agar (in a slant vs a dish) slows evaporation and makes them more suitable for long term storage

Right right, sorry, I think using the word "slant" is throwing things off. There's so little room in these I was wondering if I could just store the wedge of colonized agar in there (added to the empty bottle), or if there's not enough nutrients/whatever if I just do that?

It'd dry out; you'd be better off just storing a plate (which will keep for a couple months in the fridge)

If you're going to use it soon, I'd just do a transfer to grow out and store the plate: slants are good for long term storage

Iβve never fruited it so no idea if itβs good. I have many plates that are just as good just not as pretty.
Iβve got my hands full with rw presently anyhow.

I wouldn't worry about slanting ANYTHING that hasn't been tested and verified for desirable traits ... getting ahead of yourself
