Beautiful Rev! Thanks, I needed to see that. I cloned my first wild LM a couple months ago. I have a few clean plates, but still wasn't sure what it's supposed to look like on agar. That looks like mine, minus the pins, but there are a few knots. I can't tell from the pic, but all my myc seems to be subsurface. Is that how yours is as well? What's your next move? I'm planning to make dowels and Johnny Appleseed the woods all around me.

Here is what they start out looking like after transfer. Lions mane myc does all kinds of weird stuff, though.

I would love to do the Johnny Appleseed thing, but I don't think it would work out too well on the saguaro cactus around here. So I use masters mix in Mudda style bottles.

No. Genetically deficient or socially incompatible hyphae the colony is ejecting. Probably monokaryons that didn't find a pair.
It is weakness and including those individuals in fruiting colonies often leads to mold taking over due to the discord and lack of coordinated effort or destructive individuals. Just like colonies of people. One asshole in a class and the topic isn't learned by anyone.

Soucoup Volante #10 (SV-10)
Weird "ring formations" on agar
Hi.
I cloned a nice SV-10 fruit, and then made two transfers to clean up. Same everything - same day, same agar, ..., but the results are different. Here is the normal one, looking like I would expect it to:

This is a through-view of the second, weird plate:

Marking up the "different" sector, as well as the "ring of little islands", so we talk about the same stuff:

So my two questions: 1 - What is that "different" sector, and why is it there? 2 - More to my curiosity: why did the myc make that strange circular band of little myc mountains, then go back to normal straight ropey growth?
Some normal pics, looking at the top of the plate:

Any info, suggestions, and follow-up questions much appreciated.
Kind regards

Clones from my first RustyWhyte grow...which seemed to have been contaminated with other cube spores. Had one shoebox push out only wild-type fruits, one a mix of wild-type and leucistic but mostly purple-spored, and the last one all albino (or maybe sterile) except for a lone brown/rusty-spored leucistic fruit. I did not keep great records ( ) but I think RW1 and RW3 were leucistic with purple spores, RW5 was an actual RustyWhyte phenotype, and RW6 was an albino or sterile fruit.
Both my RW1B T2 plates looked like this - half not very organized with a very wispy leading edge and half more linear and a little wavy. I took transfers from the linear part.
The RW5B and RW6B plates are direct from clone tissue and look super clean to me (though it's hard to tell from the photo through the PP lids ).
