I place my plates on an upside down empty can of tuna wrapped in cling wrap. It stops the plate from sliding around. The plate almost sticks to the plastic. My SAB sits on a moist towel so that stops the can itself from sliding. If im going a2g I wrap the top of a quart jar in cling wrap. Keeping it the same level to minimize the distance it needs to go.

Hell I still see people posting agar plates with glitter mixed in on FB. :lol:

Do I agree with it? Hell no, I think it's glamorizing the hobby and for a new cultivator just adds make complication and confusion. :shrug:

HOWEVER, for an experienced hand that has a keen eye for identifying contamination and just bc fuck em I still feel all the extra is a bit over redundant but is entirely up to the cultivator.... they're your plates at the end if the day so if you're able to produce clean cultures with food coloring, charcoal color, glitter, etc then more power to ya. :cheers:

But nah it’s not the backside shows no mold growth or other contamination. Although this would be the most successfully pure mold I’d ever cultured if it was 😭 “The Mighty Mold Man” 🤣

Has anyone found an inexpensive petri dish canister for PC runs and sterile storage? I hate using so much foil.

You can get the real deal for $30 or so, but it seems like there must be some other cheaper item that can be repurposed. But I haven't seen it yet, nor can I piece together something cheap at the hardware store.

Hmm, I did just find them on AliExpress for cheap... $4.59 for 60 mm and $6.43 for 90 mm.

If you use 60mm plates you could use a ziplock twist top container

If you get these, just make sure to drill a vent hole in the side of the lid/top of the canister.👍

I just shoved a pp5 food storage container down a pp5 bag. Easily fits 20-30 of my 75mm dishes. Been using it for 2+ years

I use it for sterilizing glass plates. One advantage of metal over plastic is you can simply dry sterilize in the oven as well.
