I use nutritional yeast in a normal LME mixture. Before using yeast I was getting weak and transparent growth on agar. Cultures would perform perfectly fine on grain and when spawned, but agar growth wasn't great. It was annoying but I dealt with it for a long time.

Since adding 1g of NY on a recommendation, I'm getting what I would consider vastly more robust growth. The mycelium is a brighter white, more dense, and I seem to get rhizomorphic cultures more.

My stance on it is that if you are having issues with weak, whispy, or transparent growth, you should definitely give it a shot. I'm not the only person who has had this experience.

Its posts like this that make me wonder what Im doing wrong. I use 1.5% LMA and although its clean, I only get very light transparent growth.

my LME agar looked whispy & weak as shit until i started adding yeast. try a small bit of nutritional or active yeast (i use active & it works great ime) in your recipe. i use d3’s LME agar recipe & follow it pretty much exactly. 1g yeast to 1000ml agar
