Poured on the 18th. Not too thin but I did leave the plates sitting in my SAB for 24 hours before I transferred and wrapped em. Maybe they got a little too dry? After 10 years away, everything makes me paranoid as far as contams go.
Thank you Caps!

This pic is a few days old so it's grown out a bit but I decided to get some good practice in with this culture. I took 20 total transfers from this one little guy. Might have stretched it a little too thin but I wanted some extra plates to mess around with. I used a couple different ratios with the nutrients in the agar so I'm looking forward to seeing what affect this has. I'll post the results once they grow out a bit.

Lol, idk about all that... but I don't think you've got contamination there: just some bruising IMO

How long should I PC swabs. My plan is to take one and swipe a print so I can transfer to Caps Mcgee's soft agar recipe.

I know why you transfer the newest and quickest growing mycelium but what are the drawbacks from transferring a piece closer to the center? Is it bad mostly because of unseen contaminants that could be lurking or Does the mycelium not grow as quickly since it's not the newest? And a little update- so far none of the 20 transfers I took the other night are showing any signs of contams. I'll be happy if I get 10 healthy cultures out of the bunch.

BOTH actually... bacteria can easily grow under the culture and be undetectable to the untrained eye... also, the culture at the leading edge of growth is in search of food, so is more vigorous than the established (feeding and lazy) growth near the center... not that it won't colonize, just more efficient and much safer from the leading edge
