None of the luecistic varieties I've seen are very rhizo, and aa+ has been rather prolific

Thatβs really interesting- didnβt know that about that! My puffy tomentose growths are aa+. Most of the cultures for that one are at least partially tomentose, but the most aggressive ones are completely.

This dish is the first transfer from spores of CRS. Its got this blob of growth around 2 o'clock. Im assuming this a like a Trich mycelium? Am I right or is this some abnormal growth?

Im hopping to transfer from around 9 oclock.

Definitely some sort of mold... should be taking transfers when plates grow out to about nickel-quarter size... trying to transfer clean mycelium before contaminant spores have a chance to germinate and grow to be an issue

Yeah I've got a whole bunch of agar work to catch up on, the holidays kept me out of my SAB. I just transferred it out, hopefully I can clean it up.
Right now my plates are so small they fill up really fast, the size of that growth is only about 1.1 inches across (there small deli pots) Ive just got some new larger deli pots to try out (10cm across).

Thanks for advice and info. I'll be doing some transfers later this evening. Gotta make some pastyplates first. This mycelium is a clone taken from my first grow so I'm excited to revive it and see how much better I can do this time around. If I were to isolate this culture would it still have the charecteristics of my first grow? Or is there a chance it would be a different type of strain? Here's a few photos from that first grow.

So.... One of my media bottles full of grain water agar froze in the fridge. Too close to the cooling unit I think? Can I thaw and use it or did that kill it?

What Caps said. I keep mine frozen in PP5 half pints prior to sterilisation until ready to use.

A clone has multiple sets of genetics, you can see the separate sets as sectors on agar.

Ok but if I were to isolate it further would it's physical characteristics match the mushrooms the clone was taken from? Or would it possibly be a different strain with different physical charecteristics?
Edit- So even though it's a clone it still possibly contains 100's of strains?

I just happen to have a plate of AA+ on T3...still very tomentosey

It could possibly contain 100's of strains with differing characteristics, including phenotype, growth patterns, potency etc... best to clone, isolate several sectors for further testing... I just slant and expand the original clone culture: I find they out perform 11 of 12 isolates as a multistrain monoculture

Alright, think I got it. I'll continue to isolate further and do test grows. Think I'm going to start trying out shoeboxes. Looks like an easy way to test individual cultures. In your opinions, do shoeboxes tend to cultivate quicker since it's a smaller mass?

Spawn ratio and FAE will determine colonization speed (outside of genetics) a full size mono spawned 1:1 and kept in an open room will colonize faster than a shoebox spawned 1:2 in a closed closet... I like shoeboxes: small enough to run several cultures at once, large enough to be worth while

Ahhh right. Should've been clearer but you answered my question I think. Just thinking, all thing being the same, spawn ratio and fruiting conditions, the colonization might be quicker in a smaller volume. But it's the ratio that matters. What ratio do you like in shoeboxes?
