Give a poor fool some casing advice
    #2566003 - 04/15/04 11:51 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Situation:

-4 cased trays of ecuador popcorn sitting in a styrofoam terrarium with a glass top.
-Perlite and airpump humidification.
-2 3/8 plastic hoses running from an ultrasonic humidifier running at zero humidity and zero mist to provide air exchange.
-Poked a couple holes to allow air flow.

My PureShit (TM) radioshack thermometer/hygrometer reads about 93-94% steady humidity at 76-78 degrees before it freezes up and dies on me.( I regret the day I went against my better judgement and payed 25 dollars for that piece of crap.)

2 casings are straight verm, and 2 are Pro-Moss TBK blond fibrous sphagnum moss pH adjusted with a couple pinches of CaO.

They've been in there for about 3 days, not much has gone on, not that I'm expecting anything to happen soon; but I'd like to know if my parameters are within acceptable ranges to induce pinning.

The temp range is borderline high for pinning so I add a couple reusable ice packs every so often to pull the temps down to 72-73. Those temps are the exception, not the rule, however.

Anyway, I've heard of a lot of casings not doing anything for months due to unacceptable humidity or insufficient air exchanges.

I'd like some insight from the veterans here, before I become another statistic.

Yes they are. Keep the casing moist, and you should see pins no later than a week.
