Not to sound like DeNiro's criticism of 45 but Facebookers..

Facebookers ack!, the general population of large FB groups.. Blisteringly ignorant, unreasonably petty, epic egomaniacs ARGH!


We pick the interesting mushrooms, but the mushrooms sure pick some interesting people, and I mean this in a very good way, compared to the general population of other big sites like Facebook.

Sure, mushrooms make you gay, but even the simple act of once a month or so setting aside 4-6 hours to contemplate stuff puts Shroomerites lightyears ahead of the people who appear to do nothing of the sort at any given time of the year. :lol:

They say FB participation makes people unhappy, I can totally see that.

My only problem is that I have very VERY awesome FB friends that I perhaps should take to Guyana to stay on my koolaid change platforms with.

A particular thing irking me is the Feminist Mafia, the Egomancers and the "politically correct young Americans" I totally "get" the frustration now with those and the breathtaking difference between people who are merely being moral out of personal convictions and those who compulsively hunt for PC brownie points. Wow, now I also get how US universities are hijacked by it and that any attempt at rational discussion is jammed shut by them being triggered by anything imaginable and everybody huddling over to comfort them a hundred posts long about one or two words they were allergic to.

I don’t facebook or hit really any forums other than here.  Gbatemp every now and then.  All totaled, I’ve learned many a neat trick here and find solace in knowing there are other heads out there because people look at me like an alien when I divert the straight path because I saw a shroom..

I never "liked", "tagged", or played games etc on there. I only made the account to let people know from way back I had gone back to school, I wasn't dead or in prison, and to maybe find some really old friends I knew back in my teens and 20's. I wasn't in it all the time and I never got into on my phone. So no great loss. I'm in here more than ANY online platform or forum. This and youtube.

My Facebook is all animal rescue stuff and friends/clients.

It's nice to catch up with people and easily send a message.  Engaging with conversation with people is not advised generally.

Deleted my Facebook account a little over 4 months ago. Mostly for causing strife between my gf and I (we're both jealous types), but also because it's just disgusting. People peacocking, most of the people I went to school with spewing alt-right rhetoric with about as much intelligence as our current president, and I simply got sick and tired of it. 4 months gone, and I don't miss it one bit.

I use it for mushroom I'd groups, permaculture groups, mathematics and physics, plant ID, mostly the stuff that comes up on my feed is educational. I deleted every person off of my friends list like earlier this year and joined a ton of groups. It really changed the whole dynamic of the things that was on my feed it's pretty sween now actually.

Hard question for me.

There was a time where I spent a significant amount of time on this site and was probably a little too emotionally invested.

It's very hard to say if that was really a negative thing, I learned a lot of lessons from this site.

I learned how to follow rules, which is something I never really did well.

I learned proper internet etiquette here.

I learned how to adapt and overcome obstacles, with the closure of RR and subsequent opening of RRv2.

I learned how to manage people and be a link in a chain of command which I took into real life and made money with and used to help people.

I could increase the list ad infinitum.

I used this place to feed my need for social interaction when I was in the depths of active drug addiction and wasn't really fit to get it anywhere else and it helped and hurt me.

I don't come here much anymore because I fulfill my needs I used to fill here with other, probably healthier, things today.

I "wasted" a lot of time here, but when I think back on it now it really wasn't a waste, I'd have to say this forum has increased my well-being.

So... Thanks.

The mushrooms literally picked me. In a trip they asked me if I wanted to give back to them, to their movement and Cause. I said yes. They told me to buy a computer and go to the website in the back of a booklet and stick with it. I boulght the computer, learned to work with it, got online for the first time and fist site I visited was this quaint little shroom site, Shroomery.org it was called.
18 years later, I'm one of the admins and while I was part of it we all witnessed it grow thanks to all our efforts combined into the world's premier information source on mushrooms at the forefront of the worldwide shroom Movement :noyoudidawet:

I didn’t deactivate or delete or whatever my Facebook page, but I haven’t logged in in months.  There’s pros and cons to Facebook, but I’m taking a break from it for a little while.  Tbh, I considered logging in a few days ago when George HW Bush died.  Facebook is at its cringy funniest when some public figure like him passes- people all acting like they’re somehow affected by it.

When Paul Walker died that was when I realized how fucking stupid all of that shit is. I mean it was like the biggest thing in the world but a week before hand no on could have gave a fuck what Paul Walker was doing. I still dont know why it was such a big deal he died. he wasnt even a good actor at all. I mean I just dont get it. Why did people care so much about paul Walker? Yeah, shit like that is bizarre.  My best guess is that all the people making a big scene out of a B list celebrity’s death are the folks who haven’t lost anyone close to them irl.  They think mourning is novel or “cool”, or adds depth to their personality.  Gets them attention.  Agreed that most of them had no idea who Walker was beforehand.  I think a few people probably started posting about “RIP Paul”, and then a bunch of others just hopped on the trend.  Facebook is pretty ridiculous.

Many groups are completely overrun with, sorry to be so obtuse, pathetic people who are like petty, vindicative fashionistas on middle school level and you see their profile and they are 40, 50, 60.. I'm not talking them having low IQ, thats a normal fact of life thing but people who must've spent their whole life watching TV or something, not at all developed in personality yet over halfway through life. On the contrary, people with often for sure lower IQs often having much more robustly developed personalities.

As an empathic person it pains me to see them flail about aimlessly to no effect like overturned tortoises - its depressing.

I can totally see the whole cult & jesus thing, many people just NEED a shepherd to take over where their parents and educators left off, often decades ago.

Its saddening to see. I have my own gaping shortcomings but gawd dayum, this is something else.

It takes a special kind of person to seek a mushroom.

  I might take that a little more serious if you had bothered to exhaust your fingers by typing out the whole word "You're."  I guess those three extra letters of legitimacy were just too much for your tired and feverish fingers.

  Attitudes like yours are what allow presidents like 45 to happen.  You demand I show him respect, yet he has done everything in his power to make sure I will never respect him.  Respect is not granted, it is earned. 

  I'd advise at this point if you want to call me stupid that you use full sentences and type out full words.  "You're" is already an abbreviation, by trying to further abbreviate it you just look asinine.  Starting a sentence with a lowercase "but" happens to make you look like a moron as well.  I guess the fever took your fingers too, a period at the end was too much effort.  Are you typing with your nose?

no actually no it's not retard thats why we structured the government after a horrible war to be able to be innovative and dynamic to changing tides without the need for revolution. the change comes from within the system itself not fighting it. I mean it's like talking to children/nutcases about the way the world works.

It's funny how they are trying to get church and state to be as one though. I admit I know very little to nothing about how politics actually work, and I've only voted twice as well. I don't really bitch either. I just like what Asante posted because I'm a little cynical and jaded with politics and "how thew world works". I agree change can only come from within the system well, but the only people that get in there are privileged and groomed people from the start (it seems from what little I choose to look at admittedly). BUT, if all the very wealthy people taking it that really don't need it (besides them paying into it, they have MILLIONS, wtf do they need that paltry sum compared to what they have already for?) wouldn't that do something? This is a futile and endless discussion/argument for all of time (my time I feel anyway) and those that have will not give up anything to those that do not.

I'm seeing it in healthcare with the cutting of funding for work comp and meds etc...it seems like it's a "fuck'em, let 'em die, they're worthless anyway" type thing going on. Not to mention someone who owns abandoned buildings that may have multiple millions and could renovate and provide shelter for people, but no, they aren't making any money (that they don't need due to excess wealth) on it. Also what about the tax loopholes very wealthy people get through hook and crook? The guy making say 100g a year (which isn't bad really, it's pretty well off) pays more in taxes than a multi millionaire. The same extremely wealthy people give to charities, but get it back through tax loopholes, wtf is up with that? They really only pay about 6% in taxes if that (I'm not looking up shit, people know this shit and where the facts are).
