So he finally got some solar panels. Big deal. Doesn't change the fact that his carbon footprint for one year is bigger than mine for my entire life.

Or at least my life thus far...though I too would like to be a rich bastard someday. I just won't be hypocritical about and ask people to live like third world hillbillies while I'm sipping champagne on my private jet.

So because you don't approve of Al Gore, the whole of the scientific community is wrong?

Koods is absolutely right - "It’s been a long while since someone has thoroughly embarrassed themselves like you have in this thread."

Exactly.  And a study from last year shows that just 100 companies are responsible for 71% of global emissions.  THAT's who needs to be set right.

those solar panels probably get close to covering his electrical costs most of the year. I know he flies commercial because my mother has been on a flight with him on southwest. (Most politicians fly commercial) Most of what you hear about al gore is bullsht manaufactired to discredit the cause.

Where is your outrage that the oil companies pay millions of dollars to public relations operations to muddy the science and create doubt in the public and politicians. There is so much money being spent to promote ideas that serve the corporate interests of companies that want to make sure the US doesn’t do anything to hurt the oils and gas industry.

Those solar panels hardly make a dent. They probably heat his pool with enough left over to run a blender. His house is over 10,000 square feet. No matter how you cut it, that's incredibly irresponsible for someone who really believes in climate change. Even if the house were run entirely by solar panels (which it's not), it's still excessive by an order of magnitude and just plain wasteful. And that's not even the only house he owns!

https://nationalcenter.org/ncppr/2017/08/01/al-gores-inconvenient-reality-the-former-vice-presidents-home-energy-use-surges-up-to-34-times-the-national-average-despite-costly-green-renovations-by-drew-johnso/

He also mostly uses chartered private jets, by his own admission. He's been called out on that many times. That guy on Fox actually did a breakdown of all of Gore's traveling using private jets and how much more carbon it used than if he had flown commercial instead. And yea it's Fox, but they haven't had to retract it yet, so like everything else Al Gore it's probably true.

And we could go on and on about Al Gore, but there are so many others. How about Leonardo Decaprio. The guy owns at least a hundred thousand square feet of mansions all over the place, and that's not even mentioning his private jets, yachts, and cars. Al Gore actually looks really good compared to this guy.

Now I'm not saying this 100% debunks global warming. Obviously there are giant assholes who will use any crisis to their economic advantage. But whether you're willing to admit it or not, there are two sides to this thing, and the lack of meaningful action on the pro side seriously calls their position into question.

And don't think there aren't people on the pro side of the argument who are making big bucks off of global warming. https://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/2013/11/03/blood-and-gore-making-a-killing-on-anti-carbon-investment-hype/#204ac9f732dc

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/aug/24/kyoto-protocols-carbon-credit-scheme-increased-emissions-by-600m-tonnes

So just to be clear, Gore and those like him are actually profiting from something that's increasing carbon emissions.

Again, this doesn't mean that climate change isn't real. Like I said, assholes be like they are. But given these circumstances, you have to at least keep your bullshit meter finely tuned and always think critically.

I think we're really on the same side. While I haven't formed any hard opinions yet about whether climate change is real, what sticks in my craw is the hypocrisy from all sides. The policies in place are punishing those of us who are already living sustainably out of economic necessity, while giving loopholes to the wealthy to continue doing whatever they feel like. Like you shouldn't be able to just buy some carbon credits and keep polluting while the rest of us don't have that option. It's basically 21st century indulgences.

Just as an aside, I do believe in climate change. Personally, I can't speak for the entire world, but my father worked for the Department of Environmental Protection in PA. He was a high ranking boss who cleaned up a lot of acid mine drainage and even made reports on illegal dump areas, which resulted in death threats. He was respectable.

He told me about the changes he had seen in his time at the DEP. He told me about growth on top of mountains and different plant life growing. He believed in PH levels changing in the soil.

I don't doubt that there is climate change, but I do think the there is a middle ground solution. Peasants shouldn't  pay the massive cost of drastic infrastructure change.

It's important to be aware, but the solutions in have to be reasonable.

France is not Reasonable

Boss, my dad worked for the DEP as a mine inspector. Small world.

Dude. Rock on.

Small world indeed.

You think it's cool that my dad is dead?

You are a fucking disgrace of a human being.

Anytime I see you trying to take the ethical high ground on someone, I will refer them to this.

I think it’s cool my taxes are going down.

Not surprised you would make a personal attack though, shows the weakness of your argument.

The ecstatic’s statement was  somewhat thoughtless, but xul needs to stop weaponizing his fathers death. He did the same thing to me. It’s pretty classless to bring up your dad, then drop the “he’s dead”  line and expect everyone to walk on eggshells.

You don't have to walk on eggshells.

Koods, I have told you my father was dead before and you still enjoy poking fun at him for some reason. Both of my parents are dead.

I don't think it's too much to ask for someone to have the respect to leave my parents out of it?

If I didn't have self control, I could have proven a point and started to defame his family. I won't do that.
