DO i need lime in my casing layer?

I dont have lime atm but I have verm and peat moss. Need to case my trays as they need to be in the open air now and need to keep them from drying out further.

Can I do this without hydrated lime?

Also my trays are kind of dry with small pins, is it still.ok to.put on th casing layer and should I mist first? They are fruiting in the open air. My monotubs got full with bulk substrate
