My gahdamn neighbor

My neighbors have this absolutely gorgeous GSD. I’ve interacted with him since a little puppy and now they keep him outside damn near 24/7. I imagine I should mind my own but I’ve already talked to the other half and we would take him in in a heart beat. These ignorant neighbors have previously put down two other shepherds because they bit some people. Hmmmm, I wonder why.
Damn it pisses me off and I want to go over and tell them to quit being stupid and give me their fucking gorgeous dog. He is amazing. What would you do?

that's tough. is he treated well as in plenty of room to roam, dry and warm housing, constant fresh water, not living in his own feces and not chained up, etc. etc.?
i've been around hunting dogs my whole life and while they were treated well, they were never allowed in the house...no way, no how. there is definitely a right way and a wrong way to have an outdoor dog and pretty much rule #1 is not to have just one. it's cruel to keep a pack animal alone, much less all that other stuff like housing and water and food, etc.

As far as fresh water and food, I think that is provided. Probably not as proactive as I could provide. It’s not a small backyard either honestly. Not as big as mine though. He’s not chained up but he is out in the cold and obviously the previous history pertaining to dogs is not positive.
What bothers me is that I can and will provide more interaction and a better quality of life. This dog is absolutely gorgeous seriously. I am thinking I should ask to buy him.

Asking to buy is the least likely to cause problems.

I don’t know anything about how much they got him for which really sucks because I know those damn dogs can go for a pretty penny. He is pure bred and I’m wondering how much I should offer. They are going to want to get as much as possible if they are willing to sell. It’s such a predicament.

how about “would you consider selling that dog to me” and put the ball in their court. if the response to that is at all an agreeable tone or word or nod, immediately interject with “well how much do you want for him”. dogs cost, yeah, but w/out papers and/or if he’s fixed he isn’t worth spit really. You’re offering to take the burden of having to care for and feed him off of them, remember.
don’t give up the farm by making an offer unless cornered to do so.

It's a 'used' dog. They depreciate quickly.

Yo man i got a good idea, hear me out...
You steal the dog and hide it somewhere. Wait for the reward signs. You could possibly get a couple hundred. THEN you make some shit up about FINDING the dog and yoou collect the reward. Anything will do really, for example:
" oh hey i was walking in the woods and saw your dog, i called his name and he came running right up. Anyways give me my 200 dollars".
Now heres the best part. You put your neighbour in a position where hes like 200 dollars short for bills because he had to pay you the reward. This is where you benevelontly offer to buy his dog off him with the reward money. Then, he is 200 dollars ahead, and you get the dog for free. Nothing could go wrong its a win win.
