Currently playing Destiny 2, Diablo 3, (I dig grindy RPG type games) and perpetually sucking at Fortnite.

Playing the Witcher,
Might try something else,
I hate this ugly man I have to play as.

I can’t stand games with heavy character development where I can’t customize my character.
How the fuck am I supposed to relate to your game then?
I hope developers get their heads out of their asses some day about that.

Never played Witcher 1 or 2

Witcher 3 got under my skin for similar reasons to those you mention
but that was moreso entrenched in the fact that people told me it was a open world RPG with character customization better than Skyrim
so went in expecting to be able to create my character, and ended up with a predefined dude hedging into Gary Stu territory

if you are able to get past that and reframe it as a character-driven narrative you may be able to appreciate the story and setting

Ciri, Yennefer, and Triss are really strong and relatable characters, with Ciri being playable through parts of Witcher 3
the overall fantasy setting of the game also is kind of interesting for its heavy basis in Polish folklore, which does not show up in Western fantasy as frequently as medieval Viking or FrancoBritish themes
the Witcher series is itself based on written works
and the game (at least the third one) carries itself fairly well in terms of narrative, despite lack of customization

there are still barriers -- it is heavily about Geralt's role as a sort of father figure, making relatability difficult (perhaps for you as a parent there will be themes that feel stronger to you tho?)
and there is not a real sense of character customization -- it is possible to specc heavily into using Signs for magic, but never really feasible to play a mage or wizard style character; Geralt is entrenched in his role as a generalist Witcher

almost talked myself into giving Witcher 3 another playthrough with this post :cookiemonster:
but have been previously discouraged by lack of relative replayability because the narrative and characterization are so strong
the game systems do not really facilitate magic as a drastically different playstyle from sword-swinging in a mechanical sense
and Geralt feels too strongly defined to stray personality down other story paths

have not heard as many good things about the first two titles, so unsure about suggesting them as being worth your time
but if you can approach the third through a lens of narrative-driven dark fantasy, you may find reward in pushing through
the Polish interpretations of sorcery and hedgewizardry are interesting and somewhat unique; some of the fantastical creatures and their lore can be compelling as well
it does come with territory of accepting that it is very much Geralt's story rather than a personal one tho

Ya, not that far yet.
Still playing through the first half of the first game.

I decided to play it because I’m a cringy fan-girl and heard Patrick Rothfuss was a big fan of the series,
And that he wanted to game he sighed the rights over to, to be similar to the witcher.

But so far the story and the setting have been enough to keep me going.
As a writer I understand how it makes sense to use a predetermined character,
But that doesn’t mean I won’t complain about it. :snub:

I’ve been having really bad game ADD recently, but I think I’ve settled upon this and if I keep enjoying it that leave me two more games to play and a new book series to check out.

Also I’ll just say as an aside, I gotta love how they give you the option to just be lazy and only play using the mouse runescape style.
I’m overtly lazy when it comes to my games and it just makes combat so cheesy and I love it.

Plus, these guys are making 2077 so I wanna see what they’re about.
And on that note, I know the author dude is sueing them or something,
I hope that doesn’t mean they will have to prematurely release 2077 or anything lame.
It’s been 6 years, at this point, take another 6 more.

Did Pat sign rights for his novel series over to CD Projekt Red, or just using that for a metric on quality?

Remember him praising Witcher as being in line with the original two Fallout games for quality, which was a bit generous to me
but may still just be kind of bitter over expecting something else going in

They were really good about releasing a bunch of FreeLC for Witcher 3, and do not generally seem to be too deep into the capitalist focus of microtransactions in games
am looking forward to Cyberpunk, and generally have faith they will not be totally corrupted by their success

only partially familiar with the lawsuit, but seem to recall it having to do with the games getting more success than he had expected when signing the deal

No, I’m not sure who the rights were signed over to.
I was just using it as a frame of reference.

Ya the lawsuit is kinda bullshit, if you agreed to something you can’t sue someone because things didn’t turn out as expected. As much as I want to be on the authors side, because he made something real, not just some dumb game, he’s still in the wrong though I do agree it’s lame he first the short end of the stick when he did the actual creative part. Don’t get me wrong, I respect game developers, what they do can be called art too, but literature is true expression, true talent, and true beauty.

I got game ADD today, (what’s new)
Burnt out on WoW for now,
Played a bit of MTG Arena,
Checked out The Council, really damn good.
Played that for a few hours then decided to go back to the Witcher before I got too commented to The Council.

Video games also sit on kind of an awkward portion of the entertainment industry at present
he would have signed rights over a good 10+ years ago now
even as an avid gamer, going back 10 years would not have me in a position to believe that a gaming title could be so influential by any mainstream metric
to my understanding, the Witcher 3 game was the catalyst that encouraged a Netflix run or something

always felt CD Projekt Red benefited from having such a robust and built up universe made available to them
but a lot of comments on news stories and the like seems to portray the majority of the game's fans as feeling the book series would never have been noteworthy if not for the game
which is a narrative that just does not sit for me

I love good psych horror games.  Steam has The C. on sale on my wishlist.  If you are committed to it and play it through let me know your thoughts if you choose.  If it is worth paying 15 dollars for.  More about time than money.

Ive been playing the new God of War lately

For a crazy horror game, Outlast was pretty great.    It reminded me of Clock Tower back for PS1. I was only a kid playing it but it scared the shit out of me.

It will be interesting to see what happens with this case because it’s certainly going to set a precedent and I’m not particularly thrilled at either of the forseable outcomes.

Been playing Divinity 2.
Absolutely phenomenal game.

The controls are great, the game looks amazing, the combat is well done, the story and universe is fun, rich, and intriguing, the writing is top notch... I really can’t think of what I can say to really give it justice. If you’re into that type of RPG, playing it is an absolute must, I’m surprised it took me this long.

I just started to play Nier: Automata and I love this game so far.

Its probably one of the best games I played this year and it has the potential to be one of my favorite games of all time:thumbup:

I really glad I finally brought this game this Steam sale.

The biggest reasons why I love this game so far are:

I really like how the gameplay changes from a 2d Shoot 'Em Up like ikaruga, to a 3d action game like dmc.

Also, the story is really good so far:thumbup:

Anybody ever play WildStar?

They are shutting down the servers forever as of today.  LOTS of people are logged in for the last time.

I've never played but thought some people here probably have.

I'm gonna try Path of Exile on xbox.
