there is no set number. in general i swipe spores and wait for germination. i'll take the best looking germ spots and transfer to one or two new plates @ three cultures per plate (in a triangle). i keep transferring those until sectors appear and then choose from the healthiest sectors. if i'm clone hunting i'll just take the best five or six sectors to their own plate. once grown i'll put a piece (I actually like to take all good looking sectors and put them in the middle of the same plate) in a new plate and put the rest to grain. these new plates get foiled, bagged and refrigerated until i know what culture is best. then i'll continue to grow out that culture while i take clones from the best of everything i have and test out the clones. sometimes the original culture does just as good as any of the clone so i stick with it and keep on clone hunting.

Yeah, I know it was kind of a dumb question. How many licks does it take...

I just keep getting these plates that are like 70%Rhizo, 30% tom. Transfer after transfer, on multiple cultures. I can't nail it down why it keeps transferring like that.
