So on a monotub I've seen people use polyfil or micropore tape to cover the holes? Is one better than the other? Can you use micropore tape the whole grow?

personal preference, some people don't put holes in their tubs at all.

I've been trying to figure out the same question for grain jars. So far my experience with tape has been that it's almost impossible to get off after PC'ing the jars, and it gets really wet and wicks up moisture which probably contributed to my bacterial contams I got on my first batch of grain jars. I just did a set of 12 jars with polyfil over the past few days and it seems much better so far. I would imagine the moisture thing would be similar for a mono, but IDK. I'm planning on doing my first few mono tubs in the next couple weeks, so i'm probably going to do one with each and see if there's any apparent difference.

It really is personal preference. I like polyfill because tape leaves residue on my tubs and can be hard to get the adhesive off. But some people use unmoded tubs with the lids flipped up instead of having holes. It all works you just have to try it and see what you like best

Polyfil over micropore for grain jars.
For tubs i don't even take my side holes tape off just clean and refill.
