You can definitely get a decent amount of alkaloids in homegrown Lophophoras, however since they take so long time to grow before they are big enough to trip from I would go for a Trichocereus if I were you.

From the forum rules:

Too true

Anyway those you are listing are just varieties, they originate from different places and have a different genetic heritage but that still doesn't make them truly reliable in appearance and other properties.

I don't wanna advise on dosage but I will say that I would personally not grow lophs to eat them and to do this anyway would be an incredible exercise of patience. It is also a different matter to grow these outside in an environment where you could virtually leave them to themselves or the opposite extreme: to grow them indoors and look after them for all potential sensitivities and setbacks that don't really exist in a natural environment like that.

So to sum up:

Similar to cubensis mushrooms the numerous varieties of lophs W are there to make it interesting, as variety is the spice of life.. but I also similar to shrooms I wouldn't really concern yourself too much about any huge practical differences.

And micaele is totally right anyway
