I was just about to post that, I had to look it up. I thought it was a good movie but I suspect people probably talk down on it.

Speaking of 80's nostalgia, if you haven't seen Summer of '84 yet, you should definitely watch it. One of my new favorites of all. I love the dynamics of the reality and expectations the movie plays upon the viewer. Fucking twisted shit.

Summer of ‘84 was dank for sure, but I was a bit disappointed in it. I had hoped it would be more like the directors’ other movies, ‘Hobo with a Shotgun’ and ‘Turbo Kid’. I was hoping for more of that high energy off the wall creativity, and Summer of ‘84 was more about gradually unspooling the story. It was much more subtle and conventional. But it was definitely good, and the score by Le Matos was incredible.

Very realistic though. I was almost exactly that age in 1984 and we rode around on our bikes like that, had imaginary serial killers as well as a real one who came through corvallis and molested a friend of my sister's. He was the I-5 killer. This movie hit so many notes in my life that really happened. It was even set in oregon, but a fictional place on the coast.

I was a few years younger than you (born in 81), but yeah, I felt like they did a good job of nailing the feel of an 80s summer. I think the best show for that is Stranger Things; they get it just about perfect. The sets look truly 80s, the hair, the language, etc.
One of the biggest offenders in terms of 80s authenticity is a sitcom called The Goldbergs. They get the pop culture elements right and create a good feeling of nostalgia, but they commonly fuck it up with things like language and art design. Not a bad show, but sometimes there’s stuff in it that isn’t 80s at all. In their Halloween ep this year there was a dream sequence that featured Robert Englund in full Freddy makeup, playing the character again and it was real cool. Made me realize how much I want another Nightmare on Elm Street movie while Englund can still do it. I guess ideally, I’d like a sequel to Freddy vs Jason, haha.

I thought stranger things was great until I saw Summer of '84. Stranger things didn't quite hit the spot for me, but is really close. Summer of '84 was an almost exact copy of my 2nd, 3rd, 4th grade summers. Manhunt... 5th and 6th grade too but more girls.

Fuck yeah man, manhunt was awesome. Great memories of playing it in the moonlight.
Summer of ‘84 was really cool though, I’m glad you enjoyed it. If you haven’t seen Turbo Kid (from the same directors) yet, I can’t recommend it enough. I look forward to whatever their next movie is too.
