Unsuccessful morel hunt
    #2563298 - 04/15/04 01:36 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I went to see if there are already some morels popping up in and area where morels are reported every year.

Well, I didn't?t found any, what I found are some Peziza sp.

some Panaeolus subbalteatus(I think, black spores) on a horse dung heap,

and some Coprinus mushrooms on the same dung heap

Very nice Anno! Too bad you didn't find any morels. I went hunting yesterday and found 5 whole mushrooms. That's 7 morels this year. Woohoo. I'm about to go out in the woods and see what I can find right now.

Only a few, since I wasn?t really sure they were really Pan. subbalteatus.

But now, after taking a print, one can see the cap is bluing nicely.

I would say those are definately Panaeolus subbalteatus..yep

The only thing strange about them is that the caps are bluing..i'm not certain if that is normal for subbs?

Hm, strange.. wonder what mj thinks about those

Anno, what country are you in again? Somewhere in europe?

They must be subbs, they look a little different; and i don't believe bluing on the caps is completely normal for subbalteatus..

Hi, last night i looked at the book Psilocybe Mushrooms of the World and it does in fact say subbs will occassionally stain blue on the caps after sitting overnight.

They must be sorta potent; they look very robust.

Those subs just look dry/older than what is usually found.

maybe a late season flush or something.

Nice P. subbalteatus find though!!

I hear morels apear six weeks after the last frost. Is this true? Its been above 70 the past few days after all that rain so maybe I should take a hike.

Nice finds anno I bet if I go out in a few days there might be some things growing as well.

Anno lives where?

Quote:

Asutria.

That would be in Asutria, a strange European Country.

mj

Yes the hawaiian shrooms in Cow manure also turned blue not only on the stems but on the caps but was a more silvery kinda blue. Extremely rare. Usually in haystacks the sabe of the stems mycelia attached tot he hay is a fluffy cottony sky blue color.

Nice find Anno, but not enough for a dose.

mj
