Horrible contamination issues. Past two grows were bunk... ive lost over 15 tubs.

Let me start by saying i do everything in my power to keep things sterile. Im plastic wrapping my grow room and tarping over the carpet as its a rental and i cant pull up the carpet. My problem begins 3 grows ago when i had two tubs fall early to trichodermia because of improperly sealed lids. I had the stacked and the new models i purchased bent and left gaps in the lid. I was out of town and this resulted in my coming back too two solid green tubs that likely contamed my grow room with trich spores. Lost alot of those tubs after the first harvest. I think 3 out of 10 made it to a very poor second flush. My next grow i had the mycellium colonizing the substrate and all of a sudden all three fell to trich. So i went back to step one out of lack of trust to my g2g transfers which i always do in still air, in a still air box, with gloves and a medical resperator. I threw those out and prepared 55 jars of hulled oats. So far 25 of those have fallen to a yeast infection. I pc 18 jars at a time with tinfoil over each one to keep filters dry (3m microspore tape) and run my pc at 15 psi for roughly 45 minutes depending on how long it takes to pc. To clean my contamed tubs ive been soaking a rag in alcohol and rubbing everything down after washing tubs with soap and water in the shower. I run a small heater fan in a 12 by 10 room with all air gaps sealed. I think the fan is kicking up spores from the carpet resulting my my contamed tubs. Why oh why would i lose so many jars. Im confident it wasnt dirty spawn used to transfer. Would a 60 minute pc and no fan help my case? It gets upper 50s lower 60s in my "shroom room". Growing burmas and mazatapecs. Some other contams im dealing with , more so with my agar work are some kind of black fuzzy mold and cobweb mold.

Only 45 minutes to PC grains?  I do 2 hours......

Yeah that does sound like a grain spawn issue not a problem introduced in fruiting.
I would start by making sure you are venting your PC properly and then PC at 15psi for 2 full hours once pressure is reached.
Also G2G is the last thing you want to be doing if you have contamination issues.
Just use spawn that you are sure is 100% clean.
I would personally never try G2G without a flow hood because the chance that a minute speck of contamination spore will get into the bag in a SAB is very high.
The minute you open that bag or jar and the grains inside aren't fully colonised, you have little chance of clean spawn IMO.
Try just using SHIP so you don't waste time and spawn.

How big are your jars? Maybe you should PC them more if they are big. Not even the PF Tek cooks so little time

45 minutes is a very short time for quart jars. Do you vent your PC for 10 minutes before you let it come up to pressure? Besides venting being a good and functional practice that's ten minutes of extra warmth as well...  Most ppl. PC for 1 hour 45 minutes (for quarts), I think. Lot's of ppl. for 2 hours. Using those PC times would be your best bet to be sure/safe I would say.

What substrate do you use? I don't think a tub lid not closing adequately  during colonization of the sub could be the reason for 5 tubs to contaminate shortly after each other. Besides that you are saying that your jars became infected too...

To clean a tub radically I would wash it with soap and rinse firstly. then fill it with water and bleach. Let it sit for 45 minutes, because bleach isn't that quick. But very very effective against bacteria AND molds. Alcohol doesn't do much against molds.

I had a feeling i wasnt pressure cooking it long enough. Im hoping that will solve many of my issues. Im also going to turn my sab into a glove box. Ive been having great luck with my g2g transfers only losing 2 or 3 jars out of 50-60. Ive been interested in moving to bags for the simple convience. Ive always been so iffy about liquid culture inoculates though. I would still have to start on agar and open the lc mixture which lands me with the same issue as my g2g. I think a glove box is in order. Lets say i want to sterilize a whole room with bleach gas. Would filling a mono up 4 inches with 10%bleach water and letting it sit a day before plastic wrapping my shroom room be a efficient method of control along with longer pc times allowing a 10 minute vent and a glove box? All input would be fantastic. Its been such a headache and im ready to reach out for help. Not gonna try to go alone on another grow. Too much time lost.

It sounds like you have a lot of reading to do. DO NOT turn your SAB into a GB. Wipe the inside with soapy and a touch of water before you set it up and use it. If you're comfortable with G2G stick with it because you haven't been successful yet as you were pouring contaminated grain into contaminated grain. DO NOT do anything involving chlorine gas or similar. DO NOT switch to bags yet, they are not convenient without a Flowhood.

Using your SAB all soaped up, with gloves wiped with iso, start with agar. After multiple transfers inoculate small jars of grain. If they colonize contamination free then G2G them to larger jars. If the larger jars colonize 100% contam free then spawn them each to their own shoebox. Use spawn and coir 1:1 or close to that. I reccomend a top layer of just coir.

Plastic wrapping the room is one of the very last things I would worry about or try to place blame on.

Gaps in your tub lids doesn't cause trich. I colonize all my tubs wifh gaps in my lids lol

15m at 45psi is what I would blame. Do 120m at 15psi for oats

Turn your glovebox into a SAB don't turn a SAB into a glove box.

Your contamination issues are operator not environment

You don't need to bleach your tubs. You can wipe them down with a rag and they're good to go.

I'm with Bod. Contamination comes from dirty spawn..not a dirty "shroom room". Don't even worry about plastic wrapping or having gaps in the lids. Lots of unmoded tubs and fruiting chambers have holes that directly expose them to the air. This shouldn't give you contams. I grow in an old farmhouse where we have found all types of mold (mostly in the summer). And we have old carpets and multiple cats, but my tubs only contam once in a blue moon. Heck people grow cubes outdoors in open air. Just PC your jars longer and stick with your SAB.

Actually i have had many sucessful grows with g2g thats why i said ive had great sucess with them. Just not recently, i usually use 5 to 6 quarts of spawn to a 60 qt modified monotub. I always use master jars too, and ill have to start back fresh from agar now as i dont have a viable and trustworthy master jar. Im gonna go with you all on this and keep my sab and pc longer at 120 minutes after venting for 10. I have old carpet aswell , would atleast tarping over the carpet and sealing it help from kicking up spores. Then i could wipe down with bleach. Something i cant do now. Im curious why so many wbs jars did great at 45 minutes in the past. Do oats require a longer pc time? Well, i guess they must.

Old carpets don't cause trich in tubs, spawn infected with trich does that. PCing grain for 45 min is risky. For sufficient (maximum) heat to reach the centre of EVERY grain in all 18 jars probably takes a little while, and 30 min is kind of short if you want to be sure. 15 min is what it takes to sterilize stuff with 110-120C heat. The remaining time 1h45min is what I presume to be more than enough time for sufficient heat to penetrate to the core of every grain. Gl

Fair enough, i got a new tarp for my truck then . My agar mix has been sitting for a few months now. Should i resterilize? Its in a fridge.

No pour agar? I'd use months old refrigirated pasty plates if that's what you mean?
