I'd go ahead and birth them If they're pinning that much
You can also wait, but I feel that the mushies will be ready to bust through the lids before the colonization is finished

Birth those cakes NOW!
The bottom is colonized enough

I'd take them out and put into fruiting conditions(the ones with pins). Wash the uncolonized parts off as it could be battling with bacteria.
They could also just be slow...the ones without pins try flipping them upside down to see if it helps.

If they're pinning I wouldn't worry about dunking them until before 2nd flush.

Or you risk the chance of stalling out the pins you already have. - Just make sure to keep it misted well and you'll be golden.

Alright thanks guys. I'm just going to birth them all. Or should I dunk the ones that aren't pinning?
I really wanted to do them all at once. But they're all damn nearly done

The ones that aren't pinning you'll wanna dunk and roll when they're fully colonized.

Wait it out as long as you can...If you have a few small pins on the cake dunking them isn't going to harm them, but you really want to get as close to 100% colonized as you can.

I'm really hoping these cakes turn out okay. I was NOT expecting to do this today and was unprepared.

Yes, progress like normal

Vibe_Enthusiast said: So another questions. Pins were growing both up and down.. so wasn't really sure which way to put the cake. Anyway.. I just picked the way that most of the pins were growing. But their are some that are growing downward from the way I faced it. Think they'll start growing upward?

Yes they should start growing against gravity in time.

I think they'll be fine as long as they stay moist and get plenty of air.

Think I'm just in my head right now. I have the FC sitting in another tub with a heater at the bottom. So it's pretty much sitting in heated water... because my house is stays 61 during the winter time.
Also, I'm doing the humidity chamber. I have the lid flipped and slightly ajar. That should be enough fresh air.. ya think?
Ehhhh....I've seen better and worse. Is that the verm layer on top?
Placing FCs on heaters or heating pads scares me.
Lid flipped should be fine....I wouldn't let the cakes get too dry tho.

I don't have the heat high. Keeps it around 74 or so. Technically not on a heater.. just in 'warm' water.
Just because my house is so cold.
Oh ok I see now....I think these will actually do alright. Just keep doing what you're doing and we'll see where it goes.

Also.. this might sound like a really stupid question but what's the biggest sign that you need to mist the cakes?

Nice setup!
Best sign is usually if they start bruising or they just look dry

Wanna see how it goes for you. Saw it on the hc thread and wanna see how yours do compared to the similar one I ran last last winter. I think your temps are right on the border line ime. People say 70's but I didn't start having issues until it was hitting nearly 55. 60's grew but it was slower.

The paper towels might be overkill. All tubs get condensation on the lids. Just be mindful when you open and tilt it where that water's gonna run. If the paper towel soaks through, it won't stop anything when you open and check.
Some of my first cake pics i still got. All grown in an outside trailer in a tit set-up. After this I switched to bulk tubs instead of making another traditional sgfc when i moved everything back inside.

My guess is you'll have an easier time dialing it in. Like I said in the other thread, finding the right amount to have that lid cocked was the trick. With coir holding more moisture you should have an easier time finding that sweet spot.

If it's fuzzy it needs more fae, if it's drying too fast, it needs little less. Hard to gauge untill you start getting fruits and pins.
