Hello everyone and may I start by saying that I am a new member and also new to growing mushrooms.
I have obtained spores of the following speciess: B+, Golden Teacher, Penis Envy, Albino Penis Envy, Buzzed Aldrin, Illusion Weavers, Entheogen Explosion, Luminous Lucies, Cambodian
I am using a spare closet. Carpet removed, all surfaces scrubbed with a Physan 20 solution. I put in a miniature space heater and temps are running between 75 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Currently there is no light in there but I have a LED grow lamp (red / blue) that I intend to install in the overhead light socket in order to promote pinset once cakes have been colonized and transferred to bulk tubs. I would just leave it on all the time if thats ok.
I started by inoculating pressure cooked BRF jars (half pint) with the B+ (10 jars) and Golden Teacher (12 jars). This was done on November 1st. Currently (November 7th) all jars seem to be growing mycelium from most of the inoculation points, no visible sign of contamination (yet).
My goal is to start out with a simple PF cake tech to be sure I am doing things well as it is my understanding this is the most foolproof method and forgiving species for a beginner. I intend to transition to bulk tech after this experiment.
I would like to ask a few questions. (Please only respond if you have relevant experience)
Q1: Do any of the species I listed require special tech compared to the B+ and Golden Teacher? Different temps, different substrate?
Q2: Would it be possible to save some mycelium from the BRF jars that I started in order to transition to bulk tech and keep those species available to me? Perhaps take a quart jar of whole grain (popcorn) and mix in part of one of my existing cakes then refrigerate to slow growth for a month or two? I'd like to have this as a backup in the event I don't obtain spores from this first run.
Thanks in advance for viewing and any relevant input. Happy shrooming everyone!

Q1---No, they are all the same.
Q2---Yes that's possible, but not how it's usually done. People 'save' mycelium on nutrient agar.

Question 2 - AGAR. I would start off with a simple recipe by doing - 10grams agar agar (u can sometimes find packets at a Chinese market or online of course) 15grams LME-light malt extract (u can find it at any place that sells stuff to make beer with like at party supply store.) to 500 ml water. You can also cut the recipe in half which I do a lot. 5G agar, 7.5G LME, 250ml water. Start with pastyplates ill drop the link below. They are by far the easiest to start with. You will thank yourself in the long run!!! Its not near as hard as you think!

Use that recipe I gave you with this tek. Also u can use other brands of containers as long as they say pp5 on the bottom (Then they wont melt) I use rubbermaid, Ziploc, and betty crocker brand bc their easier for me to find then glad.

Just to fret: B+, Golden Teacher, etc. are examples of varieties. The species is psilocybe cubensis. That's why they all have the same growing requirements.
Regarding the saving of mycelium: you could mix colonized grains with new sterilized grains, this is known as a grain-to-grain transfer, or G2G. You'll want to do this in a SAB or in front of a hood to prevent contamination as you open the jars.
Another way would be to use a freshly-picked mushroom, pry it open a little bit without touching the inside and poking a sterilized needle in the inner flesh. This will pick up a tiny sliver of tissue that you can then inject with a bit of water into a sterilized jar of grains. You'll want to do this in a SAB or in front of a flow hood as well. Not only will this save your mycelium, but you'll also have a clone of that specific mushroom instead of the mixed bag of genetics you get with spores.

Thanks for the info folks.
So if I colonize an agar plate, do I then store it in a fridge or do I slow down the colonization using the fridge?
