Should I be worried about this?
    #25619006 - 11/16/18 01:53 PM (6 years, 2 months ago)

I germinated the spores 8 days ago, and this is what all the jars look like for the most part. They all have these yellowish/brown areas in them. Anything to be worried about?

Side note: For some reason my verm and BRF mix turned out to be very white when I mixed it, so that is why it looks like that.

That would be a lot of mycelial growth for 8 days. They look really off to me.

That doesn't look like mycelium

EDIT: That is NOT mycelium, actually. And it looks nasty.

Are you referring to all the white that looks sort of like Mycelium? My substrate mix turned out really white when I mixed my BRF and Vern together, I think I might have used a very fine grain BRF which completely coated the Verm making it sort of look like Mycelium.

What I am worried about is the brownish/yellow areas towards the bottom of the jars. The person I receive my spores from said it’s nothing to worry about and that it’s just waste from the Mycelium eating the BRF...

What was your brf/verm/water mix ratio?  I buy stone ground brf and it doesnt look like that.  Maybe too much brf? Not sure on the brown shit...

The verm looks normal. It's coarse verm, as opposed to medium or fine verm. Everything else looks... not good.

Burn it with fire and bury it under the old oak tree. Jk. Maybe it isn’t that bad but it doesn’t look normal. Do you have any pics from earlier?

The ratio I was using for my mix was 4 cups of Verm: 2 cups of BRF: 1 cup of Water. This was for 8 half pint wide mouth jars.

I first added in my 4 cups of Verm and then added the 1 cup of Water, then I picked up a handful to squeeze it to see if I needed to add anymore water. Only a few drops came out so I called it good, then I added the 2 cups of BRF.

Here is what it looked like once I loaded the jars -

I knew this looked very white compared to pictures I had seen on guides, but the person guiding me through all this said it should be fine so I went through with it.

The brownish/yellow areas didn't popup until around 6 days after germination.

Please help me! If you guys think I should start over I will toss these jars and restart. I'm not sure why the mix turned out like that, but after I made the first batch of mix I even made a new batch ratio of 2:1:1 and even that turned out to look very white.

Here is the Verm and BRF I am using for the mix -

I also was using distilled water.

I would be worried. The jars appear odd, especially to be fully colonised in 8 days. I'd wait and see.

Mix your vermiculite and BRF then add water. How long did you steam the jars for?

The reason it looks fully colonized is because the mix was that white before I even germinated the jars...

I pressure cooked them for 1 hour!

Guys, he is not claiming that the jars are colonized. They
are white because of the type of BRF he used.
I would wait 2 more days, then you'll know whats going on (be prepared to toss)

The ratio for brf tek is 2:1:1 verm/brf/water
You are short 1 cup of water.
You are def growing something but its not myc. Those are toast my man. Start over and stick to the tek. Hopefully you have a SAB and are practicing good sterile tek.

Um the proper ratio is 2:1:1 You are missing another cup of water in there.
