Looking to find anyone with similar spirituality. Born and raised Christian, but my father was Cherokee Indian. Anyone know about the native American life?

I think the Native American life is pretty much extinct, except in very widely spaced, very small pockets. Most of the languages are gone, and what's left is dying. It's very tragic.

Right. It's really sad, which is why I enjoy to try to attribute their spirituality in to my every day life. I would love to learn more. I have a song book that I can speak in the Lakota language. One of my close friends is from the Sioux tribe.
I'd like to learn as much as I could about the natives. One day the last true native will die. And when that happens, I'd want to be able to pass it one to the younger generations, i.e. kids, grandkids, etc.

Ever read Lame Deer Seeker of Visions? It's a book by a Sioux medicine man. It's basically an autobiography but with lots of information about Sioux/native spirituality scattered throughout and it's entertaining and easy to read.

Native americans aren't pagans and the various forms of Native Shamanism/Totemism were not pagan.

Some people use the word pagan to describe essentially all native, non Christian nature based religions.

Some people are wrong.
It's just semantics, but ya kno. It's important to make the distinction that pagan does not equal non-Christian, and historical discussion about the topic should pay mind to that. By that logic, Islam is paganism.
Mesopaganism is a made up term by amateur historians to try and make something for themselves. Pagan just refers to non-christian, generally polytheistic religions, that occurred in Europe during the reign of the Roman Empire, including European religions that were not practiced in regions occupied by Rome. It's essentially like the term "barbarian". Refers to non-roman tribes and cultures. But in Europe. You wouldn't call the Ming dynasty in China "barbarians", you know

Right, I've just always wondered why they (some people) say that native Americans are pagans. I pray to my Creator/ God daily for spirituality guidance and healing.
I really want to learn about how to do the N.A. ceremonies, I.e. pipe ceremonies, smudgings and even the sweat lodge. I feel there is a lot of benefits to the N.A. lifestyle that is similar to Christianity.

Only a few tribes actually ate peyote until after the white man came. It spread throughout the native population of the USA in the 1800s, prior to that it was mainly used in and around what is now Mexico. As it spread and exploded in popularity not all native americans were in favor of it, and in some communities a split formed between the peyoters and those who followed the traditional ways. Many of the older Native American medicine men were not impressed with it and some believed it was harmful and dangerous.
This medicine is one of the four spirits from below, and for that reason it is a bad thing. These spirits have always longed for human beings and now they are getting hold of them. Those who use this medicine claim that when they die they will only be going on a long journey. But that is not the truth, for when they eat peyote they destroy their spirits, and death to them will mean extermination. If I spit upon the floor, the sputum will soon dry up and nothing will remain of it. So death will be for them. I might go out and preach against this doctrine, but it would be of no avail, for I certainly would not be able to draw more than one or two people away from this spirit. Many will be taken in by this medicine; they will not be able to help themselves in any way. The bad spirit will certainly seize them."
- Winnebago elder [Paul Radin, The Peyote Cult]
The peyote ceremonies were not accompanied by the acceptance of Christian beliefs and practices, and the Mescaleros never became involved in the Peyote Religion (see Slotkin, 1956).2 Instead, the use of peyote was intended to affirm the vitality of traditional religious practices at a time when the impact of reservation confinement contributed to an increased awareness of social and cultural deprivation. Yet antagonisms became so open and bloody that eventually the peyote gatherings were abandoned. The hostilities which became overt during the meetings were ascribed to the peyote. Since its use involved witchcraft practices, its ingestion was equated with the potential for witchcraft. It will be recalled that, in the native conceptualization, power has no intrinsic attribute of good or evil, and can be used for moral or immoral purposes at the will of its human owner. To our knowledge, peyote power is unique among the Mescaleros in that it is uniformly considered to be bad. Some Mescaleros believe that one other power, the owl, is intrinsically evil.
James Sydney Slotkin, The Peyote Religion (Glencoe, Ill.: The Free Press, 1956)
