Releasing pressure during cooling off period? Shewwweee
    #25614907 - 11/14/18 04:51 PM (6 years, 2 months ago)

Hey everyone,

I couldn’t quite find any information on whether to let the built up pressure sit in the pressure cooker after sterilization or release it during cool down?
Also would 8 hours of cool down be enough to safely handle and inoculate immediately following?
Thanks in advance.

My PCs will hold a vacuum if I just let them cool down all the way so I let like the last 1 or 2 psi out and then keep the regulator open until it cools completely because I don't have a flowhood to open my PC infront of to suck in all that air.

I think generally PCs don't hold a vacuum and you are supposed to let them cool completely before you open them becuase it will mess with the moisture content in your jars.
If you open it with pressure in it your jars lose moisture but I am afraid that if I open mine with too much vacuum it could suck contams into my jars.

If you leave it it doesn't cool? I normally let mine sit overnight and it depressurizes on it's own, not really sure  how your PC works

Just depends if they're cool yet after 8 hours. Chances are if you can touch them they would probably be fine.

Just curious, how are you innoculating ?

Not really sure about contam issues since I normally leave it alone overnight

I read the third comment and thought it was you

Yeah just leave it be and let it depressurize on it's own, I don't open it until I'm ready to put them in the SAB

Let it depressurize on its own and dont rush inoculation, no sense shaving hours off a project of weeks

Don't depressurize rapidly...it causes any water in there to boil over and makes a mess and ruins your efforts.

I feel confident about sterilization procedures done but maybe a bit unsure whether or not I positioned needle correctly and went deep enough when inoculating. I did make sure to keep my eye on the proper amount coming out of the syringe and to be up against the glass.
