I wish life was just about chopping wood and fetching water.

What more do we have but our actions?

It is chopping wood and fetching water. In the moment. No past. No future. NOW.

Being here, now. Just being.
And in just being, in this moment, whether it be chopping wood, fetching water, cooking a meal, eating that meal or those moments when there is nothing needing to be done, it IS being mindful, in this moment of now and JUST experiencing the sensations OF chopping wood, or fetching water.

This is what I think. For what it's worth...

Either way, you can heat the water and take a bath. Chop and fetch enough, you can relax and just build fires and boil water all winter long.
Practically speaking.
Certainly a sense of achievement would be reached in either case, having stowed firewood, and filled your water reserves enough to focus on your path to enlightenment for months, with little thought on the practical matters throughout.

Bicycling is a pretty engenius modern invention, and a good way of simplifying, bioenergetically, I hear. Although bicyclists are not great signalers on the road, all the time...

Bicycles are actually machines that are faster than running.

Enlightenment's secret is that it is already there...no need to find it, but chopping wood and fetching water everyday will strengthen the body and the mind...but it soon gets old. If your busy with survival enlightenment is not a priority.

"A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

I crap logs and fetch water to flush them with.
There must be more to life than this.
